Freddie Cougar, Keighley Cougar’s furry mascot broke off from his strict training regime to celebrate ‘World Book Day’.
World Book Day is a UNESCO event which is celebrated in schools throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland on Thursday, March 5.
The aim of ‘World Book Day’ is to encourage children to explore the pleasure of books and reading.
The super Cougar broke off from his exertions in the Cougar Park gym to spend an hour or two relaxing and reading a book in ‘Cougar Pride’, the club’s independent educational centre.
He got his nose into a book called ‘Cougars Going Up’ which was published in 2003 and tells the story of the Cougars’ year of action when they were promoted to National League One. It was edited by David Kirkley.
Freddie said: “It was fantastic to relive some of the club’s most recent glory days. I really like reading because besides helping me to relax, I also learn a great deal too.
“There are loads of schoolchildren all over the country joining in World Book Day and it’s great to know that so many of them enjoy books and reading as well as all the other things they do in life”.
