| "Sinfield will be involved in various projects with a focus on business development, event support and post-career player development."
So basically he's a summer intern.

| Bants aside, it's good to see someone like him staying in Rugby League and not join some of the other legends in Union (yet!).

| Makes sense, an intelligent former Top RL player with loads of experience getting a role that has nothing to do with club bias but just the promotion of British RL in general.
Well done...(for once) RFL..

| The sceptic in me is again left scratching my head. A player who has provided great service to the game walks straight out of a pair of boots and into one of the top admin jobs in our game. I hope he is an inspired selection and kills it however it would be interesting to see who else was approached for the position, and was the position advertised?
I suspect the answer to the above questions is nobody and no.
We need to try to bring the best people in the World in to support our game. Hopefully Sinfield is the best man for the job but with such little experience in his new role it will be a steep learning curve.

| Is he a successful businessman in his own right, then?
And that's a genuine question. Because otherwise I don't see how he's qualified to 'focus on business development'.
I'd have thought player development and such would be more his cup of tea.

Agreed. Very much a "jobs for the boys" situation here no doubt.

I doubt very much he is in charge of accounts
Sport is very different to many businesses, thats why Heatherington (a former player coach) runs a club much better that Koukash (an accomplished businessman)
The rfl need a shakeup anyway, because the businessmen that have been appointed recently are clearly clueless, RL and RU both went full-time professional around the same time, yet whilst RU revenue and awareness has skyrocketed since the RL has floundered

Business Development is pretty much just about networking. Sinfield adds about as much "celebrity" as RL can muster, so it could be a good appointment.

| He has a Masters in Sports business, so he's got the academic qualifications.
It's only 2 days a week anyway, sounds like a nice cushie job to me.

| I'm not sure what his terms of reference are. Having seen his interview prior to last Saturday's final I don't think he knows either. I suppose the RFL will make it up as they go along; just like they always do.
