| Does his departure from Salford tell us anything about how Shaun Wane has coached Wigan? If we assume Harris "used" the Wigan structure which to some is the Maguire magic which Wane has continued with during his spell, does this dispel the myth of the structure? Is it the Koukash factor? Or is it the lack of a core nucleus of local players ? I can't decide if the collusion of Wane & Wigan has 100 times more synergy than money & mercenaries and a tried & tested structure. Yes Wane has his failings but would he do any better at Salford than Harris?

Can't comment on all that, but a few folk said he was making a bad move at the time but the lad didn't listen. I think it would have challenged a really experienced coach to control all those egos. Anyway, not sure where he goes from here.

| Koukash controls every part of the club. If the rumours about the changing room assault are true then I side fully with Iestyn.

| I once refused a very good job offer because I knew the guy I would be working for would be a nightmare... Best decision I ever made.

Been told it is and in that case Harris obviously had nowhere to go. The best coach in the history of the game wouldn't have success working under their crazy owner.
Harris had them going really well until injuries and suspensions kicked in and as soon as a couple of bad results come along the doc throws his toys out the pram and his weight around.
Brian McDermott summed him up nicely!

| When they beat us on Easter Monday they went fourth. Then Rangi Chase got suspended for seven games and Michael Dobson got injured IIRC. They lost the next seven games. I'm afraid that's what you get for signing Rangi, brilliant on his day, but he cost Salford their top eight chance IMO. No blame for Iestyn. He left Wigan for a head coaching position. Who wouldn't? I wish him luck.

Really?
Harris went to Salford for the same reason everyone else did. Who wouldn't have? He might have been a half decent coach if he'd just served that little bit more time as an apprentice (whether with us or elsewhere). He might well be in the future. Although, I suspect he's destined to be just another jobbing coach in the same league as the likes of Agar.
He's well out of it away from Koukash though.

How much of an apprenticeship does he need?
He was the assistant head coach at the Crusaders for 12 months and assistant head coach at Wigan fronext 2011 - 2014. On top of that he held the top job at the Crusaders for 12 months and Wales for almost 5 years.

Well the Crusaders experiment went well didn't it? I don't remember Wales doing that well recently either. You should never stop learning. The day you're that arrogant to believe you've nothing more to learn, then you need to change your name to Geoff Boycott.

Who said he should stop learning?
Do you really attribute the failings of the Crusaders to the coaching or playing staff? They made the playoffs and generally competed.

It was a catalog of errors, from poor play to some dodgy financial decisions via an argument with the Home Office. So, no, I don't blame Harris as the sole reason for what happened did. I just don't think he was ready & maybe even thought more of his abilities than was the reality.
And as far as the tautology between being an apprentice and never stopping learning is concerned, you could argue that Agar is back in school under Smith (although I cede that doesn't seem to be going too well either at the moment).

| I don't get the criticism of Agar. He got Hull FC to a cup final and he got Trinity to the playoffs. Two pretty decent coaching feats. He did a reasonable job at the World Cup, with the French playing well against NZ IIRC. Quite how anyone can attribute Wire's poor season to him is beyond me. Maybe the fact that that they still haven't replaced Briers may have more to do with it than anything Agar has done.

he's not a [ibad[/i coach/manager, I just consider him rather mediocre, an also-ran in the grand pantheon of RL greats. And back on topic, I just wonder if Harris did bite off more than he was able to cope with at both Wales, Crusaders and then Reds. Although he's been very poorly tret by Koucash. What's Sheens making of it all? I bet he's wondering what he walked into. I'd be surprised if he's there beyond the end of the season - unless, of course, Burgess flip-flops codes and joins that oh so merry band

Harris' time at Wigan was always going to short lived after our grand final victory over Warrington.
