Former Manly, Wigan and New Zealand star Tony Iro is favourite to replace Cleary at the Warriors.

Never thought this guy would be a coach in a month of sundays! He was a tourist who came over with big brother Kevin who was the one that got floored by dessie drummond at Wembley in 1990 Cup Final!

| Kevin Iro did play in the 90 Final, I think the expression "floored" is flattering Des Drummond a bit!

The thread is about Tony Iro , who didn't play. Lydon and Preston were the wingers that day, with Kevin Iro and Dean Bell at centre.
Not a bad back line.

| Sorry meant Tony didn't play in 90. Tony was a great prospect, looked lethargic but did it in the big games. Went well in Australia after this.

Correct, another 'urban myth', Iro scores and Drummond slides in slightly late, Iro throws the ball at Drummond who punches out at Iro catching him in the face, both are then separated by other players and no other punches are thrown, nobody is 'floored' or even hurt.

I would be over the moon with a centre partnership of Bell and Iro in our current team.

That was a fairly typical Des Drummond incident, if I remember rightly.
He threw a punch to cover up the fact that he'd flunked a crucial tackle.
Not surprisingly, several Wire fans of my acquaintance thought that was the best moment of the game. I suggested to them it would have been a lot better if Dessy had actually made the tackle.
Anyway, a better moment in that game was Joe Lydon flooring Paul Bishop. That that REALLY was a flooring.

| Tony Iro was a permanent fixture in the Bees Knees throughout his stint here. As an earlier poster said, he always looked lethargic in a Karl Pryce way but delivered with tries time and again in big matches.
And I believe the correct commentary sequence runs: 'Kevin Iro? Tony Iro? 'ANLEY!'

He took some stopping when he was near the line, Tony.
Didn't he go on to have quite a decent career Down Under after he left Wigan?

His middle name is Roy, Kevin's middle name is Leslie.

From Wiki:
[iWhilst playing for The Adelaide Rams in the Round 13 game against the St George Dragons, Iro received the ball ten metres out from the Dragons line with ten seconds remaining. In what is considered the only instance of this event occurring, Iro proceeded to run forward at the defensive line, then slowly began to run backwards and continued to run backwards to his own 40 metre line were he would be tackled and the game would end with a 22 to 20 victory for the Rams. This is considered one of the greatest moments in the history of rugby league and by far the greatest moment in the short history of the now defunct Adelaide Rams.[/i
So one of 'Big T's greatest achievements was running backwards. They'd have put a statue up for Mark Calderwood.
