A strange feeling has returned. After a few seasons of going to watch Wigan, not knowing whether they would win, last night I went expecting them to win like in the 'old' days.
I now expect them to beat Bradford away. Very strange.

I felt comfortable going in to last night`s game.

Most bookies were predicting a Wigan win by 14 - 16 points but I thought we were much better than that.

Should have taken a gamble !

How true!! There was a time back in the nineties when the entertainment had gone out of watching RL and the last ten years have really been what supporting a sporting club is all about: commitment, loyalty, not knowing which way the match is going to go etc. etc.
In fact there's another thread going elsewhere about how people much preferred last weeks game to last nights and although I'd whole heartedly agree with those sentiments the current performances, attitude, league table and optimism are stirring some very strange emotions in me, as Jimmy Birts says an almost retro feeling that I'd almost forgotten about.
It MAY BE, just MAY BE that now is the time for those feelings of invincibility and "simply the best" to return only this time (having not been around in the early eighties) it will mean so much more.

Texting the Mrs with the score at half time last night and an update on how we are playing, as I always do, I recalled the desperate messages I've been texting over the past few years. I was almost on the brink at one point of saving a standard message in my phone 'Fooking awful again, surrender monkeys the lot of em' sack the coach, why do I bother'

Hearing that last night also brought some memories flooding back tbh. However, I think we ought to wait and see before it makes a permanent come back. I've always thought that when they start playing that song again after home matches we would truly have announced our return.

very true on all points, i have that feeling of back in the 1990's when you feel relaxed before the game has kicked off as you have faith an belief in the players as you know they have the same in themselfs. At the moment i can't see a game that we will lose, don't get me wrong i don't expect to win every game , but the feelings are very good.

im reigning in the excitement for the season ahead , but find myself placing bets on wiganers for awards at the season end , most trys , most points , man of steel etc

looking at our fixtures its posssible that after 8 games we could be P8 L0 D0 W8


we have had a couple of tests so far , hkr and wire , bratfut should be a win , leeds being the doubtfull result , get past them and who knows !!

The buzz around the place at the moment is fantastic and everybody is looking forward to each and every game.

I keep thinking each week the bubble will burst in truth we're capable of carrying on with this good run for the season. We'll obviously lose a few games along the way but aslong as the players keep putting in this effort it won't be a huge number and everyone will keep buzzing.

I can't help but think back to the 2006 season at times like this. We were on our knees halfway through that season and it was horrible turning up at games each week knowing we'd see half hearted preformences.

What a difference to now and what a joy it is to turn up and watch us every week.

i am extremely excited about Wigan at the moment. It has provided a feeling of nostalgia over the last few weeks that echos of our glory days. But there is still a little bit of me that is holding back till we've played saints and leeds. Beating warrington at the HJ last week especially with a few out and also the fact we didn't play particularly well shows how far we have come in a short time under MM and Wane. BUt the proof will be in the pudding when it comes to the top 2 in superleague. We are the form team but it leeds and saints we need to crack to give ourselves the best chance of silverware.

According to the bookies we've still got work to do.

Wigan - 13/2
Warrington - 8/1

Defo worth a punt at that price!

Going off current form we can't play Saints and Leeds soon enough! Gidley tore his quad last night and he's one of Saints main strike players so he'll be a big loss. I get the impression that Leeds have had one eye on the World Club Challenge this weekend and they will improve once that's out of the way. We've got them both back-to-back at the end of this month. Bring it on I say!

The feeling last night was brilliant, walking back to the car with nothing but praise for every player was awesome.

Bookies are rarely wrong. I'm as happy as the next man about the way we have started but the realist in me also tells me that we have played three very ordinary teams at home and whilst we have made the most of them, there is a lot of hard work ahead and there is still a way to go yet.
There were times at Warrington when the same old mistakes crept in and there will be some tough decisions to make this season with a number of players off contract at the end of it.
The signs are good but I still think we're a year or two away from were we want to be, but moving in the right direction.
Bradford next week will be as tough as ever and the rest of the RL world will be waiting for the wheels to fall off so let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet.

Please God, don't let us go back to that, I've always hated that song. It was a nice gesture last night, but if this is indeed the start (and I really hope it is) of a new era then let's not turn it into a Tina Turner fuelled cheese fest.

Were Catalans dire or were you just immense?

I hope we can match you and give you a good game next week, but you are the form team in the competition and none of your players look ready to drop 2 points yet.

Catalans were to be fair dire, but we in the first half at least were superb and would have pummeled most side's in Superleague.

It'll be nice to come over to your place for a night game for a change, it'll provide a better atmosphere than Sunday afternoon's.
