| If Salford have their points deduction reversed today, Castleford will almost certainly end up in the qualifiers.
Chase is set to start playing for them from Sunday and no doubt will play against us.
When he was released by DB (because he wanted a life away from Rugby) 7 weeks ago, DB said he ha kept his registration to prevent him signing for
another club - what went wrong?

| Should Cas end up in the middle 8's they would not be able to play Chase against us.

| If Salford do get their points back,I think Widnes v Salford and Wakefield V Castleford become very big games. As for Rangi,DB retained his registration in the interests of the club.

| I remind all of my first thoughts when the news first broke he would be signing for Leigh.
Unfortunately he is only interested in one thing at that his himself.
Always has and always will.
He will remain an enigma, with undoubted talent, forever.
Why folk got sucked in God only knows.

| It's a difficult one for me this, I have experience with mental health issues and they are no joke . If as stated in various press outlets Rangi has been (maybe still is) suffering depression then i wish him all the luck in what ever he does . I am by nature a cynic and do see that "mental health issues" could be a load of old cods wallop but BECAUSE it's mental health and how vulnerable it can make you i would rather give him the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise .

| I talk about his whole career since arriving on these shores and not necessarily the years surrounding his instability and any issues he may have, or still be encountering.

| It's an interesting situation.
Firstly, I am sure Chase will be able to play against Leigh. His contract has been registered by the RFL, which cannot happen if they don't feel the Castleford club have the right to his registration. As Gareth Hock was allowed to play against Salford (despite Koukash threatening to sue him/Leigh/the world), the same principle applies here.
I hope the clubs have been in contact with each other and made a sensible agreement. Rangi clearly didn't want to play for Leigh, who now can't afford to play him anyway due to the salary cap (I assume). It doesn't make any sense for Beaumont to stop him signing for Cas. He wouldn't get any money for him on the open market.
From a legal point of view, it would be difficult for Leigh to effectively say "we can't afford to pay you but you can't earn money anywhere else". That's such a clear restraint of trade it would probably take an employment tribunal about two minutes to dismiss any claim Beaumont or the club tried to bring. It just wouldn't be worth any of the legal fees from Leigh's point of view. You can't hold people to ransom and prevent them earning a living when you don't want (or can't afford) to employ them anyway!

| It renders the whole contract useless if players fancy a move but know the new opportunity won't pay a fee, come out with mental health or fancy travelling stories, get the release then sign elsewhere for free

I think the difference is that Leigh cannot re-employ him, even if they wanted to.
You are right, we can't have players swanning off for a few months because they fancy playing somewhere else. But if the club they leave don't want them anymore anyway, they can't stop them being employed elsewhere.

| That may apply to Chase, but certainly not to someone who signed a contract to 2018

As soon as the employer can't afford to (or don't wish to) pay the employee the contract is effectively over though. You can't stop an employee working elsewhere because you might want to employ them again sometime in the future.

| Think you are missing my point as it wasn't about Chase. If you offer someone a contract extension then you clearly want to keep them. If that person then says he wants to go to Oz it would be wrong to stand in their way and our owner didn't. 3 weeks later it appears he has signed for Toronto. He either needs work on his cities of the world or someone has avoided paying compensation or a transfer fee. This is my opinion which could of course be wrong but the smell is not very nice

Fair enough. Thought you meant Chase as his original contract was to 2018. Didn't realise you had another issue with a different player.

The player is Jake Emmit & the Toronto/Wolfpack Centurions have been playing some very serious & shady games since & even at the time of Paul Rowleys departure on [iethical grounds[/i to decamp to Canada with reportedly so far 4/5 of our squad & our Head Coach & an Assistant Coach.
Alarm bells should be ringing at Red Hall but they will bend over backwards to ignore any wrong doings for the benefit of expansion.
