Just an observation on yesterday's match. I was sitting about 15 rows back in the West stand and got very wet. I wondered what would have happened if there had been a larger crowd on.

Would spectators have been expected to sit in the lower rows and get even wetter? If so, I can imagine many 'casual' and some 'not so casual' spectators not returning.

I understand that the stand is poorly designed but wonder if the East stand can be opened as it it sheltered from the prevailing wind.

In the current climate we cannot afford for situations like this to arise. It will not do to say, 'we are Leythers and things like this don't bother us'. Have LSV got a plan?

West Stand would still have to be opened because of the exec boxes etc so it would cost much more to open the East Stand as well, though I too was a little worried that it might put people off in future.

To be fair - if you were sitting down in the Tommy Sale Stand you'd be hard pressed to have been rained on!!

Remember when we played the Pies in the CC (2002).....got there nice and early to secure my usual spec......and it fekkin' leathered down for about twenty minutes just before kick-off!!!! I was still wringing my sleeves out at half-time!!

Wear suitable clothing.

A few lads stood near us that day had sprayed their hair red and white and ended up getting half a dozen separate visits from St John's Ambulance who thought their heads were bleeding as the dye ran down their faces

As I said this is precisely the attitude that will get us nowhere with the 'casual' spectator, who will think that he will be dry if he is stitting in the stand! Not an unreasonable expectation.

You wouldn't get that in SL, it doesn't rain on the privileged on the correct side of the Pennines

Then they`d get wet, the same as fans in the North Stand would if that was full to capacity.

Maybe if somebody had explained to the architect that rain doesn't always drop exactly vertically we might have been alright , how much did the stadium cost ?

Back 2 rows of West stand dry, 2 rows in front of that slightly wet with bits of raining coming in.
Below that, well you might as well have been sat in a open topped stadium

Its a bit frustrating I suppose if you didn't get the seats at the back , I suppose even more so when you look across and see a big empty (dry) stand , however the logistics of it must be difficult if deciding on the day to open it and its very very hard for the club to know in advance what the weather is when our highly payed weather experts on TV frequently bring it down to nothing more than a guess.

Whilst I generally dismiss some of the pathetic "Health and Safety" reasons used for things that 'must' be done (with the costs associated) I have to say those steps in the West became very very slippy in the rain, some 'professional claiment' will seize that opportunity if the club/LSV is not careful as we do live in that namby pamby culture.
Be ironic that the East Stand isn't opened due to Safety reasons (lack of stewards etc) only for the LSV to be sued for someone twisting a ankle on a wet surface ! !

Lets not forget though, how often do we get Easterly winds with driving rain, its not to common in summer, so a degree of common sense needed.

Having said that I'm sure that as soon as this is read there will be a thousand yellow 'John Terry' type Health & safety signs being ordered by the LSV managment

Jenky lad as my older bro will testify I am not a pedantic complaining type of guy but yesterdays rain came from the South.

No one complained in the North Stand we held a barbacue at HT and Matt and Ody did the flamenco.PS have I spelt barbaqqqqqqq right ? Charlie will know.
