Interesting to see who is not in the team with a view to the match on Saturday....

It's an interesting idea, but if you look through our squad of 33 players I think you will find that the team will pick itself due to injuries. Sandow, Hughes, Dodds, Harrison, Laithwaite, Johnson, Patton, Wheeler, King, Atkins are all out. We know Westwood and Russell have sore ankles and need resting. Dwyer and Bailey are close but unlikely to feature I would have thought. Ben Evans has just recovered from a knee injury and is a doubt, but hopefully Lineham will be ok. That leaves 18 players including Livett and Morgan Smith --- unless you raid the Reserves where Sean Kenny and Daniel Murray could certainly do a job for us. Unfortunately the Reserves also have a game today as you pointed out.

For once, we really are 'down to the bare bones' as Wigan fans would say.

Take it today wasn't much of a game, presumably you didn't have your strongest academy players or any first teamers playing tonight. 76-20 is quite a score though. I think we've beaten you at every level recently, is that correct? Is it not a concern that you don't seem to be producing as consistently as Saints/Wigan given the facilities and money being spent since Moran came in?

I don't know much about the youth setup, but that is a pretty disappointing score. In our defence, with Sandow and Patton out we have no experienced half-backs to guide the Reserves, even Morgan Smith was left out to be in the 17 for the cup game, while you had Travis Burns in charge again.

No genuine responses on this? I don't watch any of the grades other than the first team so don't know the circumstances. Could be as simple as your academy are all younger or we've got a strong set at the moment.

I think your post is disingenuous. If your youth system is so good (and I have always admired the set up and commitment), Saints would have a haul of trophies over the past few years. But they have not, even worse you are one of the most critical of the current team performances on your own board. You have come on here for quite a few years and posted interesting, non-confrontational stuff, but as Cat correctly stated, this particular post was 'disappointing'.

Looking at the team we put out only Harvey Livett has a 1st team squad number, but he's not played SL and is also only 19.

Saints had Jake Spedding, Matty Fleming, Travis Burns, Andre Savelio, Jordan Turner, Lewis Charnock, Jack Ashworth, Oliver Davies, Ricky Bailey, and Levy
Nzoungou (he's played for Toulouse 1st team)

What's the situation with subs in Reserves?, as we had 4, but Saints had more.

also nice to see Savelio using wire to negotiate a better contract and turning it on for the reserves

Excellent riposte TFB, not only did they need him to help out short term in a time of crisis but if I recall Mr Saddo actually stuck his hand up saying that Saints would take G'OB full time.....despite their well oiled production line.

We fielded 3 Rochdale players, one from NW Crusaders and 1 ex Wigan Academy ( I think). Add to that 6 players who didn't manage to get into the SL squad and 6 U19's and it is perhaps not surprising we got a thrashing, as we had no players with any SL experience. Still, well done to Saints it sounds as though they put on a very good performance on the night.
