| Ok, now that terrace banter is restricted to the weather and last nights X factor results and my pet cat has no opinion on such matters, I thought I'd join up, stick my head above the parapet and join in the fun ...
All time wire dream team (from those I've seen & dribbled over): Brian Johnson, Dessie, Phil Blake, Allan Bateman, John Bevan, John Woods, Lee Briers, Sir Les Boyd, Duane Mann, Adrian Morley, Mark Roberts, Ben Westwood, Lord Mike Gregory SUBS: Kelly Shelford, M.Monas, Ronnie Duane, Bob Jackson
Random fave memories : John Woods creaming Ellery straight from a scrum Locker Cup 87, 90 CC Semi, Premiership 86 run and final, 78 Kangaroos game, Phil Blakes boots persistently falling off en route to the try line, 1st match @ HJ, last at Wilderspool, Player of the year do's @ Touchdown, Rowland Phillips breaking a tackle ....
1978 seems like yesterday and if the TS era has been a dream hope I'm not gonna do a Bobby Ewing and wake up in the shower to find we're away at Oldham and Phillips & Finau are propping ....

| Brian Johnson deserves to be in purely for THAT try in the 86 premiership final (not one but two sidesteps that would have made Sam Tomkins go cross-eyed), and the one in the John Player semi v Widnes but I agree Bretts been the best for a long time
Andy Greg will never be forgiven for betraying us and joining the pies and costing me a fortune in therapist fees over the following years, though it did mean we got to see Keith Holden in the P&B (until the Swinton pothole incident which caused me further grief and meant my therapist could afford to retire and buy a yacht)

| My therapist is currently arranging that trip into space on Branson's forthcoming rocket.
Everytime someone mentions Mark Roberts, I shell out more money to him

I 'collared' Andy Gregory at a Sportsman's dinner and said I was disappointed he left us, alluding to him letting us down, "betraying" us. He was at pains to point out that none of it was his doing and he enjoyed his time at Warrington. I don't think he was just being nice/politically correct, not that kind of bloke especially with a beer inside him him, just plain honest.
He would be in my 13 alongside Briers at 6 can't help feeling a twinge of guilt about leaving Parry Gordon out

That first post was a blank look of astonishment for 'two timing' Parry Gordon.
You are hereto scratched from my Xmas card list.

Ah, I was only young when he played, and my memory may be all rosy tinted, but Keith Holden was one of the best halves I've ever seen play. Not many players get me thinking [iif only[/i but he's one of them.
Can't argue much with the 17, but would have Bert at fullback (Johnson couldn't break a tackle to save his life, but was safe as houses and could chime into the attack as well as any fullback I've seen play, but he didn't create scores like Bert does. I'd also have Gary Sanderson on the bench instead of Ronnie Duane - tackling machine whos nickname was the Hoover, and could break the line when attacking outwide. Wonder what involvement Holden and Sanderson have in the game now?

| it goes to show that we have had some top class players over the years and massively underachieved.
What about a team of wire players that should never have put on a primrose and blue shirt tietzel and king the 2 worst forwards ive ever seen play for us lol

| Some great memories from the OP. Would have to find room for Nicko and Tommy Martyn in that team somewhere though. I was at Station Rd the day Keith Holden's leg disappeared down a pot-hole and finished his career. Tragic for him and us.

Sorry Chaz I felt guilty and suppose it's to do with who you consider is the best in that position versus your favourite and they arent always the same? Parry was my favourite and you can't question him being a top Wire, but, was Andy Gregory a better SH all be it for a brief period?
Bob Eccles and Tommy Martyn would also be in with a shout for my team sheet but, the OP's team and some following posts tweaking it prove we've seen some players over the years?

Parry, Andy Greg and we haven't mentioned Briersy or Ken Kelly. Both fantastic half backs.

I had Briers in with Gregory on an earlier post but you're spot on MKC Ken Kelly was a top player.
