| It struck me over the weekend we have probably 3 genuine contenders for MoS this season - Moz, Monas & King. In all likelihood the SL will decide for the sentimental vote and give it to Cunningham in his last season (though he should have won it years ago...). Realistically half-way through the season, who else are contenders?

| Once King has his hair cut, he will no longer be a contender for MOS.

| I think that Amos Roberts might have been a contender had he not been injured and kept up his form. Puletua (sp?) will probably be in the running too...

| Sam Tomkins. Why the obsession with overseas players - just because they are Aussie doesn't necessarily make them better. Go with someone young and British for once.

| Would Ben Harrison still be classed as a young player? If so Ben Harrison for young player of the year.

If only mate! Saying that Roby got it as a bench player so maybe...
Have to say contenders for me are;
Monas - Always look for his name first on the teamsheet
Moz - IMO best prop in the world
O'Loughlin - Hate the guy with an absolute passion, but he's playing out of his skin for Wigan apparently
J Tompkins - Same as curly top
Cunningham - As said by someone else, coz it's his final year
Puletua - Best player for Saints apparently
Eastmond - Same reason as Tony but other Saints fans opinions
I think the GF winner/contenders will go a long way to determine who gets it...

I think you've outlined most of the main contenders there, can see James Graham and Sam Tomkins coming into the reckoning as well though.

If you took the overseas players out of SL we wouldn`t have much of a spectacle left, generally its the overseas players that stand out in our game. We only have a handful of genuine world class british players in SL so its hardly suprising that its overseas players that come to the fore when your talking of the top performers in our game.
My vote would go to Michael Monaghan at this stage, the guy oozes class.
Top 5 for me.
1. Michael Monaghan
2. Adrian Morley
3. James Graham
4. Pat Richards
5. Matt King

Reason I never mentioned Graham is because it's come to be expected of him now so he doesn't seem to 'stand out' as much. Don't get me wrong, awesome player but can only go off the words of the Saints fans who go week in, week out and the gist seems to put both Puletua and Eastmond ahead.
S Tomkins I debated for a while, again brilliant player, but this one I decided against it because according to Pie fans I've spoke to and the pundits, it's his brother who's stood up this year to be counted... England's number 6 no doubt, just think Eastmond is of more importance to Saints, like Monas to Wire, than Sam is to Wigan.
I agree to the point don't rule them out though, still half a season left after all...

| Sam Tomkins is an undoubted talent but he`s inconsistent, man of steel is about consistency which is why i wouldn`t have him in my top 5 ahead of those that i picked out above.
He`ll get better and more consistent as he matures, i just don`t think the is on the top 5 consistent performers at the min. Pat Richards has been Wigan`s most consistent performer from what ive seen this year.

| I think the challenge for young player of the year will be quite interesting. Both of the Tomkins', Harrison and Eastmond will all be in the running for it...

| Certainly from a Wigan perspective Joel, Pat and Lockers have been our best most consistent players.
As for wire Morley, Harrison and Monas to me seem to have been your best.

| I've been pretty impressed with Carl Ablett this year too.
Of the Tomkins brothers, Joel is the one - he can do everything. He's a brilliant player, some of his ballwork for a backrower is unreal. I'm not sure we realise how good this guy really is to be honest.

| It's a tough call, Sean Long has had a massive impact at Hull, they are fourth in the league and IIRC havn't won without Long.
Wigan, sadly, have a few contenders aswel. Coley, Tomkins and O'Loughlin having exceptionally good season's so far. Saints have the usual suspects, Cunningham and Graham. Leeds dont seem to have on stand out, but Peacock has been a trojan, as usual.
For us, Monaghan has been the best player, but for true courage and 'steel' it has to be Morley. Could have a different slant on it this year, Tony Smith and Michael Maguire having club changing impacts.
