| Quote ="Thelonius"Those races always seemed to be a 100m sprint carrying the ball. I would much prefer the competitiors to start behind the goal line with the ball on the 20m line and the winner is the first to ground the ball at the other end. This would introduce a bit of skill rather than pure pace. Do you take the risky option and kick the ball forward hoping for a fortunate bounce, or do you take the slower safer option of scooping the ball up. Knockon = disqualification.'"
That should be the half time entertainment. Two random beery fat blokes of equal size (possibly one from each team). Would be hundred times better than Fusion Elite or any of that other dancing crap.

| I also remember reading that Rhys Williams was the fastest player at Warrington. I also remember reading that Solomona was the fastest off the mark!
Having seen Atkins pull away from other players when in the clear this season, I'd guess he's amongst the fastest in SL.
I also agree that Joel Monaghan isn't about speed. One of the most depressing things I saw from Wire last year was in the CC Quaters against Wigan, Charnley gets a yard on Monaghan and pulls away, and Monaghan just gives up instead of trying to chase him down! We all know a player can do something to slow down, slight injury, knocking the ball like Pat Richards did when in the clear last year when no-one was anywhere near him, so you never just give up the chase!
I'm sure Monaghan got a bollocking for doing that as later in the season he did chase back.

| Last 2 runners in that 100m race for Hull were Jack Briscoe and Tom Lineham
I expect Lineham to break into the first team next year, good build on him and very quick

| No way is Atkins the out and out fastest in Super League.
However in terms of size x speed Atkins is a guy you would not want running at you as he has raw power as well as speed and good acceleration. I think he can go on to have the same type of effect as Keith Senior has done over the years, Atkins is quicker than Senior and has similar size.
I remember a young Dale Cardoza playing for Hudds against us and tearing us up the middle and thinking he had huge potential, with a guy that strong who had the extra yard of pace on most centres, he could have been a massive player in SL, but he faded off the scene quickly. Atkins has come around with the same sort of physique as Cardoza (seems taller too?) but seems to have the right attitude.
Considering his young age and what he has done already, if he plays another 6-8 years with us he will probably end up as one of Warrington's all time greats.

| I just remembered Luke Robinson sprinting away in the 4 nations a couple of years ago.
It was a Hanna Barbera cartoon complete with legs moving faster than the actual forward motion.

| I seem to remember Atkins giving cudjoe a well done pat on the back after failing to catch him in a full length sprint to the line in an important game last season. (fair enough it was at the end of the game) Comparing atkins to cardoza is a joke-cardoza had two brain cells all he had was pace he had no skill-atkins has that in abundance- Atkins has a lot of power and is able to shrug off would be tacklers -but there are a number of players faster-but pace only does so much if you don't have the nous to use it.
Macbanana is an idiot (well we knew that already) to fail to pick him for the England squad.

Sounds as if Ryan doesn't expect to get an international recall so long as McBanana is in charge. Are Ryans reasons for his supposed lack of commitment really that bad/trivial or is there more to this than meets the eye.

| It's a good point you make about Atkins England career. Whether he is the fastest, strongest, etc etc is all debatable, but one thing we probably have some consensus it that he should be in the England squad.

| Atkins should definately be in teh England squad. I know he had a shocker of a tour to Oz, but he's matured as a player now and doesn't have the same frailties now.
He did say after the 4N games last year that his personal reasons for not playing was that his "wrist was hanging on by a thread" and that was the reason he didn't play internationals after the regluar season. Why this isn't spoken about now is a mystery to me as if a player is too injured to play, you don't risk them against the Aussies!

Charnley is more than likely quicker over 30m but I reckon Atkins would do him over the full 100m. He almost chased him down in the Quarter Final last year.

| Well on the thing re Atkins and England, do you remember that bridge pulled out of the world cup squad or the 4 nations down under as he was having a baby, and he said at the time, Steve had assured him, it wouldn't be held against him in future squads.
