| Care to believe 1000s were in attendance at the stadium this weekend. Did SCR have a stall? Open club shop? Have games for juniors? Neville the Devil make an appearance? Marketing department doing their level best again I see. Anyone care to defend this or is it an over achievement that 1000's attended because it was built and they came....

| Over 700 stalls apparently, yet nothing from Salford. The event was even organised by Real Radio who I believe are one of our sponsors?
On a similar theme, the stadium car park has been used as a park and ride for the olympics football games at Old Trafford. Don't suppose anyone from the club popped out and distributed a few leaflets onto the car windscreens promoting Salfords upcoming fixtures?

| with a bit of a white lie the club could have put stickers on car windows stating that the next match is an Olympic event, having watched the crowds at OT, it would appear some people would go to watch anything if they thought it was in the Olympics

Do you think the club should have taken the opportunity to have some sort of presence at the car boot sale?

I think fans who want them to do such things should show a bit more foresight than hindsight. They should also volunteer their own time to help make it happen.

I emailed the club before the womens football international to see if they had any plans for anything such as handing out leaflets etc promoting Salford, and also volunteered to help out if they were planning anything. As usual, no one replied.
The fact is we had 5500 at the stadium for a womens football game, 700+ stalls for a car boot which caused traffic gridlock due to the number of visitors, and have had a full car park on at least 4 occasions for the olympics park and ride, yet there hasn't even been something such as a poster on the club shop window advertising our next game. You have previously claimed our lack or marketing is down to our low budget, but I am presuming one poster on the club shop window is within our budget? Having these events at the stadium is one major positive of playing at Barton compared to The Willows. The official branding for the Olympics park and ride even referred to it as 'Salford Reds Stadium' rather than the official title. We are actually getting some brand awareness but yet seem to have no idea or even intention to capitalise on it.

Come on - you're the one who extols the power of marketing!!
It would seem to have been an easy opportunity to target, at very low cost, some new potential supporters - a definite miss by the club I'd say

So marketing the club is now down to the supporters and no one employed by Salford City Reds? You're really scraping the barrel now, pal.
And people have suggested this to the club and people have also volunteered to help. The club still haven't done a thing. But hey, it's the fans' fault.

I'm not a huge believer in marketing, at least not window posters or leaving flyers on car windscreens. So I'm finding it hard to get as excited about this massive opportunity as others here. Do we know the ROI?
Didn't the club send out tens of thousands of flyers to local residents prior to the season kicking off? I'd like to know what kind of response that got (I fancy it's not in the tens of thousands).
That said, a small army of volunteers could have spread the word with a little help from the club. An army of one I fear Karlos!

1 fan, 500 fans? We'll never know. I'd just be more impressed by a poster here seeing these things coming, rather than waiting until it passes and loading another dreary "I told you so" missile in the agenda-heavy sh*t sling.

Yep, that's word for word what I wrote, Pal. Awesome summarising.
Are employees of the club not entitled to a day off? Are you gonna pay overtime costs? And the 'marketing' materials? You got those covered?
I've no idea if organising a marketing event to an unknown number of car boot shoppers is worth the outlay. Neither have you.

So far I've counted one person claiming they've done that. Hardly a call to arms is it?

I guess mostly because every flyer handed to me and my car windscreen tends to go into a bin, unread.
Secondly because, as above, the club have done mass mail outs in the past, to little avail (I presume. They may have been a huge success?)
But my speculating on non-take up is as much guesswork as those who think canvasing the car boot sale was a massive opportunity. With enough volunteers it's probably worth a punt. I'm not volunteering mind, I'm not that selfless.

| I doubt the club would have been allowed to do any kind of marketing during the Olympics Park and Ride as the IOC and LOCOG have draconian measures in place to ensure that nothing is allowed to detract away from an Olympic event and the branding.

I don't think they'd find much use for a software programmer.
My opinions may not tow the common line on here but at least they're my own. With that in mind, I'd suggest mine are amongst the least tinted specs you'll find. You're not the first to say this, which is quite telling of how anyone not indulging in the perennial gang misery looks like an outsider.
This "Us (Turkey) vs Them (Club)" mentality on here has slowly ruined what used to be a good use of my lunch hour.

I'd have more time for someone questioning the club's actions BEFORE an event like this, not just running here afterward to 'join the club'.

Believe it or not, people do have lives away from here. People have contact with the club that is not discussed on the Turkey, or not relevant to to Turkey discussions until afterwards. That's just the way of things. Posting something immediately doesn't give you any extra credibility.

You've made my point beautifully. It's not relevant here until there's a problem, then it's like throwing a chip to a flock of pigeons.

It's official. Unless you post something on the Turkey IMMEDIATELY then EX.SALF.UNI won't believe you. Shame on you,
Karlos13, for jumping on the bandwagon. Fook me.
Quote ="EX.SALF.UNI"I'd just be more impressed by a poster here seeing these things coming, rather than waiting until it passes'"
Not as impressed as I would be if someone at the club had managed that.
Quote ="EX.SALF.UNI"Yep, that's word for word what I wrote, Pal. Awesome summarising.'"
It ain't that far off the mark from what you're insinuating.
Quote ="EX.SALF.UNI"Are employees of the club not entitled to a day off? Are you gonna pay overtime costs?'"
Yes they are and does it have to be overtime pay? People would have volunteered their time (although they never posted that on here, so you don't believe that they would) so you could do it without any extra cost. Or even, get this for an idea, if it was a paid member of staff dishing out leaflets or opening the shop up you could give them another day off during the week. Funny, that. I often end up working the odd Saturday and get another day off in lieu, happens in plenty of places, I'm sure Salford could manage it. And even if you can't find cover for the day they take off, you could even put advanced warning out into the wider world that the shop will be shut one extra day during the week. Although I do apologise if such moves would be a bit too forward thinking for both yourself and Salford RLFC.
Quote ="EX.SALF.UNI"And the 'marketing' materials? You got those covered?'"
If we don't have even the smallest marketing budget, we're even more f*cked than some people are suggesting. However, you could always get said marketing materials sponsored. That was discussed on here not that long ago, strangely enough. Plenty of other organisations do that. I'm sure someone would be willing to pay a few quid to have their logo/company name slapped on a cheap leaflet. Again, though, that could be too forward thinking and advanced.
Quote ="EX.SALF.UNI"I've no idea if organising a marketing event to an unknown number of car boot shoppers is worth the outlay. Neither have you.'"
Surely that's the case with a lot of marketing? The opportunity was there to at least try it. Even having a pop-up banner somewhere ([url=http://www.rollerbannerstands.com/banner-stands.htmlyou know, something like this[/url) with a table, couple of leaflets and fixture lists would've been something. Maybe have the shop open for a couple of hours?
Quote ="EX.SALF.UNI"So far I've counted one person claiming they've done that. Hardly a call to arms is it?'"
Ah, right, of course, anyone else who asked the question didn't back it up with a post on the Turkey, therefore it clearly never happened. Tell me, do you walk round with two pencils stuck up your nose and a pair of underpants on your head?
