Benji would be a good replacement for a not so impressive Richard Myler at the fabulous Catalans Dragons. However I think that such a move might create financial-legal problems for Catalans. But almost any Super League club other than Warrington would be better off with Benji Marshall at No 7.

But how many clubs can pay him what he wants

I don't know the answer to that question.

He would probably want £200k minimum to head up to the northern hemisphere, don't think any club has that amount of cap space available for this season, maybe Leeds if they release Burrows. Is he a risk though he is more injury prone now and his form has been inconsistent probably due to coming to the end of his career.

Marshall is not the type of half back we need.we need an organiser not a maverick.Plus,for the money he would demand it would be a big risk for any side taking a punt as he is nowhere near the player he was before his Union move.

Benji is not so much of a maverick these days, and he has a good kicking game.

Surely a team can pay him more if needed under the marquee player system.

But would still be the best player in the comp, such is the gulf in class between NRL and SL, and I'm no fan of Marshall. Harsh reality is that most marquee players are going to be decent name Australian players in the twilight of their careers, as they see it as being able to extend their playing career for a year or two.

I think I would agree with that, Superleague quality across the board is poor.

He is a regular guest on NRL 360 on Fox and I think he mentioned he was holding out for the best deal he can get - but his price is maybe diminshing. Step in a Super League club to pay him what Australia no longer think he's worth.

Wigan have absolutely pap halfbacks (cue angry Wiganers telling me Williams is the next great white hope), even a washed up kiwi would improve them no end.

I agree the move seems to have done him the world of good, last thing I'd want to do is replace him with (another) 30 plus overseas player.

I imagine your boy learnt everything he knows watching Benji. Williams is injured and out for a while.

Myler is very good when he has an even better stand off next to him...not many better than Carney.

Probably wouldn't be to difficult for Benji to be Man of Steel, as most of the Aussie deadwood like Garbutt etc are usually classed as retired once they come here.

You only have to look at Matty Bowen he was classed as retired and came to one of our elite clubs, same with Gidley lowly Newcastle Knights wern't bothered with his services anymore.

Matty Bowen was a joke in this country though, not MOS, not the best example.

Bowen only ever seemed to have a good game against us(Leeds) he was great in his last game in the GF but on the whole, i thought he was pretty up and down for the 2 years he spent here

It was an example of Aussie deadwood whom are classed as retired back home and yet are considered good enough for our elite clubs, a bit like last season with the talk of cuthbertson wearing an England jersey.

As for genuine class you had to go back to 2005 when Saints had Jamie Lyon, now he was man of steel.
