What has the comment got to do with the question of when SOO will be held in 2010?
Soward will be a one season wonder - the defences in the NRL are too good and teams will work a strategy out to stop him - SOO for Soward I don't think you will need to worry too much

Not sure Herr Stuart words of wisdom count for much TBH - look at where his side currently sit in the table and what happened to the last national side he coached!!!
I am not saying he isn't a good player - what I am saying is he is not a Thurston or a Lockyear in his prime and as such the defences in the NRL which I rate pretty highly will find him out next season and his impact will be severely reduced in 2010

| I think Soward will get a shot at Origin next season as long as he produces in the finals this year. IMO the Dragons will win the GF if Soward plays well and if they do he will get in the Aussie squad for the 4 nations, i know they'll go with Lockyer and Thurston as first choice but Soward and Prince will be there in the squad aswell. How can they not pick Soward on this season's form? Look at Campese last year, had a great season with the Raiders, got them to the finals, okay they got knocked out in week 1 but they made it and Campo got in the world cup squad and played against someone before going off injured.

he had a very good season last year too but the RL media being what it is, they wait till theres a bandwagon then do it to the max.
i was reading good things about soward way back when he was at the chooks and when we got him he always did very well imo.
all the media he gets now is just funny. thats why its good wayne bennett keeps him away from the media, theyll do his head in
the same people saying he shouldve been dropped in round 1 are now saying he is good enough for origin

It's not quite the same case. First, a World Cup Squad is different to a Four Nations squad in that we always knew every World Cup squad member would get a run at some point in the tournament. For the non-regulars, that would be against PNG. It's unlikely the whole squad will play in England this year, although I admit there's no precedence with France yet. Most of the time, a few players are picked to tour to cover for injuries and for the experience only.
Secondly, there were no concerns over Campese's defence, which rep selectors in Australia put high value on. Obviously there is concern with Soward's defence.
We've seen how hard it's been for Prince to play for the Kangaroos, and he's been at it for years. He does have a few caps to his name now, but it goes to show that it is unrealistic to expect Soward to walk right in.
Soward has had twice the season Campo had last year, but I save for a Churchill Medallist performance or something close, I still don't see him getting there.

| I know Soward wont walk straight in and his defence will be a factor in wether they pick him or not, Scott Prince doesn't get in because Thurston is the best half back in the world, Lockyer on the other hand is coming to the end of his carrer or his rep carrer at least so Soward will have as good a chance as any at replacing him when he hangs up his boots. I think if they pick Soward in the 4 nations he will play against France and alot of the squad players they take will too. It's the NZ game where the first choice team will play.

Even though all it looks like all you have to do is run at Soward and he'll fall over. The stats show a different pic.

Some interesting stats there, so Soward has missed 44 tackles in 20 games at an average of 2.2 per game which is surprising but he is playing in a dominant Dragons team and he has Beau Scott and Wendell defending either side of him and Beau Scott does help him out in defence alot.

sowards form this year has killed every other half in the competition.
weve smashed the broncos (so he easily accounted for lockyer and wallace), beat the cowboys (thurston) and recently got the storm though the titans its one each (prince)
i dont care if NSW or australia dont pick him.
saints are more important than both.
the reason why NSW havent been winning in origin is they dont pick the best players
soward is head and shoulders above any half they have this year, including kimmorley.
dont pick him and lose another series to queensland.
im more worried they pick him and he loses his confidence in a losing side and they wreck him like they did with pearce and campese.
soward does his job very well

andrew johns and others have said soward should go on the 4 nations and if he performs then get picked for origin next year as well.
laurie daley was asked about soward for origin this year and he said that as well. (nsw selector)
of course saints need to do well in the semis for this to eventuate.
if we win the GF then i cant see how he misses out

another thing :
campeses good form last year saw him in the WC squad and continued good club form this year saw him in origin.
and remember canberra werent doing that well in the nrl.
soward is playing in the top nrl side and if that continues hell have built a great platform for rep. duties

| Campo wasn't playing well after Origin but neither were the Raiders and all the expectation lies with him, then he got dropped for Origin 2 & 3 and only recently has his form and confidence picked up.
IMO Soward will be in the 4 Nations squad and they'll play him and Prince against France or England, Lockyer and Thurston will play in the rest.
As long as Soward carries his form into next season he will get a shot at Origin alongside an experienced half back like Kimmorley. I'd like to see Soward and Mullen but i think the inexperience will make the selectors go with Kimmorley. Look at Wallace and Campese in Origin I.
