Certainly my club make a fortune of replica kit every season. So a two year kit would cost them a fortune. We have also had examples of sponsors going bust, Eric French at Wakey for one. A club can't then legislate for that. This then creates a situation where new shirts are required.
I also as a sponsor would not want to be held to a two year contract or no logo on a shirt.
I have shirts from 90s and early 00s that I still wear occassionally as they are as good as new, but the ones from the last few years with transfers are "retired" already which I find very frustrating. I did refuse to buy my clubs shirts this year, until our Magic shirt which has "in built" sponsors and I would imagine I will be wearing it for many years to come.
