| Thought I'd share a few lines of my matchday experience with you, in the hope that today was very much a "one off".
We arrived at the turnstiles off Stadium Road at about 2.30, to be met by 2 lines of people waiting to show their season passes / match tickets. The 2 guys on duty at the head of the lines were patently doing their best with their hand held scanners trying to read the barcodes in the sun - but everything was taking much too long. It looked amateurish, was causing ill feelings within the queues, and really did nothing to make season ticket holders feel that they were valued by the club.
By contrast, the cash turnstiles open had nobody foolish enough to go through them with their £25 fee.
Once in the ground, we made our way for a drink to the bar below the steps. After queuing again for a while we were told "no Carlsberg, we've got a problem". I asked for a Fanta for my grandson and was told by the barstaff that she would "have to remove the top for health and safety reasons" ! WTF ?
Not quite believing this, I walked past the burger van, which was selling bottles with their lids intact, no problem, and went to the marquee bar. I joined yet another queue, but as I got towards the front, the cry came up of "the Carlsberg's running off". A very knowledgable young lady member of staff predicted that "it's the gas, I'll ask for some more from the Touchdown bar, it shouldn't be too long". Cue an exorbitant can of Carling at £3.50.
Had the crowds been large today, we'd have been a total laughing stock. I know others have commented in the past about the shoddy management of the place during matchday, but I've never really had cause for complaint. However, this is one extremely hacked of Bulls fan who has a message to the management of Odsal -get your $hit together, and stop treating your best customers like cattle !
And then came the match.......

I agree. It’s not the most welcoming place as a result.

A phrase springs to mind. "If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys". If you're going to get staff on the cheap because you're trying to save money, you can't expect them to be good at their jobs and things to be organised. Sadly, it appears to be a mantra of the club outside of the playing/coaching department.
This sort of thing isn't a one off. There was plenty of talk last season about the disorganised nature of the ticket scanning. There's been plenty of talk in pre-season about the poor food and drink service. It seems like this isn't a priority. Which if you're charging £25/£30 to walk in the turnstile, it really should be better.
I'm afraid it'll keep happening whilst the attendances are good.

| The lids off of bottles is pretty commonplace across grounds and arenas nowadays.
The rest I agree with. But if the way the ticketing / entrance is setup saves the club money and makes us more sustainable then I can live with it.
I’m not a drinker but I imagine the lack of decent beer is an annoyance ( but again pretty common complaint amongst sports fans I would think ). Last summer though they did have a good selection of soft drinks available when it was very hot, silver lining I suppose!

| I also joined the queue at the car park turnstile about 220pm, it was probably about 15/20 yards long and took about 3 mins to get through scanners, no problems at all. S/T holder, card scanned and straight in

| I must admit, when I got there I had a pick of three stewards to scan our tickets. Yep the sun caused issues but can't blame the club for that. Seemed to be plenty of beer flowing in the stand side bars.
Stadium's been sat idle for three weeks so it's a bit harsh having a go at folk for not predicting the beer gas is out.
As for removing the tops I guess kids love to put them in their cake holes so don't let them have them, no-one chokes...
I'm more concerned that York bullied us in the forwards and we made some utterly perplexing decisions and looked, at times, like we'd never seen a rugby ball let alone learnt how to pass one

| It’s clear that the priority for the club is the on-field stuff. It must be because the off-field gameday experience is very poor. I’ve never been a big drinker at the match but would by food quite often. Nowadays the queues, the quality, the price and the choice put me right off. Other clubs at our level manage to provide a much better experience, Batley for example. It does make me wonder since this could be a useful source of income for the club.

It's been my practice for some time now to keep two or three (different) caps from soft drink bottles in my pocket when visiting rugby grounds - they take it off I go outside and put one back on....

The bottle top this is a health & safety reason, but it's not kids trying to swallow them. It's because people can't be trusted to behave themselves and not throw the plastic bottles at fans/players/officials. And if they throw one with the top off, it hurts a hell of a lot less than if you throw a full bottle with the top screwed on.
As has been correctly said, it's quite a common rule amongst sports grounds. I remember the first time I encountered it at the Magic Weekend when it was at the Etihad. Spent saturday annoyed by it. So on Sunday, I took my own bottle top with me.

Have been doing the same for quite a while since they started getting removed, my mantra is that im not going to throw £3 at someone so im highly unlikely to do the same with a bottle of pop.
Also makes it easier to keep hold of without risk of spilling.
The gameday experience has been poor for quite a while and i just put it down to the club trying to cut costs which is fair enough, the stewards are quite lax if you want to bring your own food in mind, seen picnics before now.
The larger the crowds we get id hope it would improve slowly.

Exactly. I can just imagine the reception anyone would get if they took a mostly empty bottle back and said, "someone kicked it over and it's all spilled out, because you took the top off"

My first thought is that they worry you'll be throwing it with something else altogether in it. The after effects of pop shall we say.

| I quite like the weird hotdogs in a bar but on Sunday saw they had some baked taties in the warmer so had one of them with cheese. It was OK too. The cost of a pint of San Miguel (which i don't really like that much unless I'm in Spain!) and the taties though came to £7.70 which is a bit steep, but if the extra couple of quid keeps the club afloat then I can live with that. If i was tight or skint, I could have brought my own baked tatie and a cold can to consume in the car once parked up, for about a pound, so the club is making a bit - but I suspect there will be a significant amount of hot food goes to waste each match so that needs to be factored in too as well as staffing costs etc.
Also I'd be pretty certain that the Bulls in the current setup will analyse closely the net results of all the things mentioned - entry price and takers, beer and food costs and sales etc. I'd be surprised if they didn't as they seem to watch the pennies. I would think they would react more to actual sales and wastage in setting and reviewing prices than individual opinions, which are valid, but not necessarily representative.

| Aren't the food outlets concessions and not run by the club? I think the bars are under club control though.
