Great interview by the gum-chewing Perez on BBC Sport website...confident, positive and spot-on answer to the question of whether the Air Transat sponsorship announcement should embarrass some of the British clubs. It probably should, but he was far too gracious to say so, and put a new perspective on things. He realises that actually its the Hulls, Wigan's, Leeds etc. that need to keep up to avoid Toronto eventually hitting a glass ceiling in terms of market size.


A million miles ahead of the RFL, and most clubs as well for that matter.

The Toronto deal is nicely timed with Warringtons deal with Emirates set to end after 2017, surely they won't want to be out done by some poxy Canadian airline....!

Well done Toronto on securing a massive sponsorship deal, as others have already said showing the RFL how it done...so no doubt we'll be casting them adrift in about a years time, we don't like progress in this sport.

I will reserve judgement on the mass ejaculation of their sponsorship deal until we actually hear the facts about the deal. I remember a mass hysteria about the Eddie stuff art deal and look how that turned out

If it's just covering the travel costs of the club its still a very good sponsorship for a new club in a sport most of the country has never heard of.
If it's covering the costs of the other club's as well then that would be fantastic

Exciting times. Looking around at comments on Facebook/Twitter you can't help but see typical negative jibes at anything Toronto vast majority of which originate from round Yorkshire way (jealous supporters of stagnant 2nd & 3rd tier clubs)? such as 'RFL should be looking after its own'....etc.

Really wish them success, the sport surely needs more exposure!

Since when was leigh in Yorkshire? Lol.

I view and post on their Facebook and Twitter pages and not seen many negative views, especially from Yorkshire teams, if anything their more than supportive and welcoming the wolfpack

I'm from Yorkshire and I'm looking forward to a trip over there, hopefully when they acieve a couple of promotions, rather than my team going the other way


Perpignan is a great small French city but, Toronto is a large vibrant city, loads to do, plenty to see and to go there to watch a game of RL would be phenominal.

Remember that hull fc v Toronto is on premier sports tomorrow afternoon!

At least they may not be as arrogant as certain other clubs when they get there

Of course I wish for it, we all want our sport to grow surely? Maybe then it opens doors for more clubs coming in, otherwise we stay static and eventually die off.

Given they ( their new coach ) have spent several months basically destabilising our team you'd understand the Leigh fans being unhappy with them , if they had approached and ultimately signed a similar number from any other club I've no doubt their fans would have reacted in a similar fashion

Other than that issue most Leigh fans are fine with Toronto

A couple of ways of looking at it are: 1) Take it as a compliment that Toronto see the barometer on which to progress over the next year or two. 2) Your squad was going to be de-stablised anyway as you recruited heavily ready for SL. I mean, really how many of those that have gone to Toronto would hold their own in SL? Maybe it was a blessing in disguise?

Very much my opinion , I doubt Paul Rowley being good enough to coach SL anyway and yes most of those players would probably not have been retained , and ultimately we did get promoted

Both those reasons are why I've never really got annoyed with what happened with Rowley and Co.
I think Dixon was getting better and would maybe have got a contract but the only player I'm really still disappointed has left the club is Worthington

If he's not good enough to coach super league why are you constantly crying about him leaving you for Toronto?
