| With Makinson, Swift and Grace all in the squad obviously only 2 places are available for wing.
Have saints once again shot themselves in the foot giving Swift a 2 year extension ? You cant pay decent money to 3 wingers and I suspect union teams will start looking at Grace.

| No not at all. Swift will be a useful squad player if he loses his place on the wing. Grace looks a really good prospect and we should be looking at a long term deal for the lad,but lets not forget he is only 2 games in and a lot can happen.

| Absolutely not.
Swift is IMO the best winger at the club at this time.
Makinson is a good pro who is dependable and a solid finisher. However he lacks that bit extra that swift has in attack.
I personally would look at slotting Makinson into right centre once Lomax is back. Makinson played centre a lot at academy level.
I also think its too early to be jumping the gun re Grace. He has a lot to learn, teams havent worked him out yet. When they do he will be put under a lot of pressure and his weaknesses will be mercilessly exposed. May i remind you of one Kevin Penny who was lauded when he broke into the Wire side before becoming an embarrassment. It took years of hard work in the lower divisions before Penny earned the right to play SL again.
Grace has a lot of potential but it needs nurturing and not over exposing. I was embarrassed that fans are already chanting his name. This is premature and could blow back in our faces if it goes to his head.

I would keep Makinson at Full Back with Wellens teaching him the trade at that position to know when to join the attacking line. We can't keep swopping and changing our back line every time (which is often) when Johnny Lomax gets injured he should be more of a utility player now as he has the ability to cover 3 other positions.
Swift is a good finisher with good footwork but comes up with some unexpected errors, I would say he is a more dangerous player in attack than Makinson. For Grace he's not really been tested yet, great easter weekend debut but early days yet, the coaching team are well aware he is a bit raw when it comes to other aspects of the game.

| Not a Saints fan, but would you not fancy Grace at FB? Imagine him like Tomkins in his prime, getting the ball with 20 metres space to run into, side stepping, etc. I think the kid is wasted on the wing.

| It is a delight to see a Saints player with real pace and a step and the ability to beat the opposition. His size will always be a problem though. If he is looked after and coached well he could just be a little diamond.

| Swift best winger at the club, IF that is the case it shows how bad the club is with wingers, Grace has much more prospects, but needs to be handled wel, if a player is good enough age should not count! experience comes from playing.

I doubt it, not in the near future anyway.
Wales have a near identical player in Keelan Giles and it's him who's being groomed as an heir-apparent on the wing.

Doesnt have to be signed by the WRU. Hes on the radar of at least 6 Aviva teams I know of and there were scouts from Sale, Newcastle and Wasps at the wigan game

Then that would come down purely to money and where he could earn the most.
He wouldn't become a Wales RU international whilst plying his trade in English RU.
Even if they made him an exception, he's behind Giles and probably Jay Baker.
He's already a Wales RL international.

“At the end of the game we were talking to the pair of them, and a stalwart Welsh rugby union fella came over and said ‘You don’t need to go up north for anything lads, everything you need is down here’. And Regan actually said to to him, ‘Yeah but I’ll get the chance to run with the ball in rugby league"
Hopefully this attitude will prevail if/when the RU clubs come sniffing.

End of the day money talks and he would be able to earn 4 times the amount of money he can in league. Its a shame, but its where we are as a sport.

| I think leigh exposed Regan Grace on the high kicks last night and might time to give him few weeks out the fire now as teams will kick to him after watching the video of last night.
He's only 20 and still learning the game so need to be careful with him and ease him in. I'm not saying drop him as he's been excellent but he's only young and plenty of time.

Im in agreement with this.
He needs nurturing not throwing to the Wolves.
A better team than Leigh would have totally destroyed hm, just as we did with Kevin Penny.

Its an interesting one with Grace, if he holds onto those kicks early in the game he only needs a few metres of space and he is up the field like Jack Flash. It seems as though he was losing the ball on the impact tackle rather than a dropped catch so thats more down to security of the ball. Centre and full Back need to be assertive in what high ball is for him and what to leave, I would keep him in the 17 until he starts to feel the pressure, at the moment he has more positive impact than the negative variable.
In his 4 games he has already played against the 2 current "big boys" in Wigan and Castleford and only made 1 error. Widnes was 1 error and Leigh 2 errors.

my concern is the dropoff in performance. He wowed us against Wigan, was solid against Cas, was pretty anonymous against Widnes, and then was exposed versus Leigh.
Young players tend to to have greater peaks and troughs than the experienced pros, im concerned that at present he is on a downward trajectory.
He might wow us against Wire, but then again he may do a Nathan Graham and drop everything.

Swift has hands like cows tits at times and his positional sense in defence is questionable. I don't mind Swift but Makinson is by far the better winger but Grace has the raw materials to eclipse both. I agree patience is required he's got lots to learn, needs to improve defensively and physically has a lot of development yet. Embarrassed that fans chanted his name? Do me a favour, he will have grown an extra leg in confidence from that, and will spur him on when he's left out as part of his development. We've been starved of raw pace since Albert and Sullivan before him.....more than understandable why fans have such high hopes for Regan.

We had little go forward against Widnes and we were still scrappy against Leigh, I don't mind him settling in and learning the game from the top he is world class in attack and everyone makes mistakes, I mean look at Meli, terrible under the high ball, but 10 meters from the line often unstoppable.

Yep I knew this was coming. If not rested soon we could do him lasting damage.
I don't think we've had to dodgy wingers since Gardner and Meli.
