| I would have put this on the Sin Bin but I feel it would get more chance of support from here.
Can I ask for people to help us try to keep a local pub from being knocked down and lost forever. The Wagon & Horses in Haydock has been in the community for over 170 years and is now under it's biggest threat.

Please post your valid objections to help us save this pub.
Thanks for your help

| If we could have a pub that was pleasant as it was when I was younger I would agree, however if we are talking about returning the Wagon back to what it was before it closed then no thanks.
We used to walk to the Wagon in the summer with our parents and sit in the beer garden and watch the bowls etc. Before it closed, it was like a wild west saloon bar where the music stops when you walk in. If you aren't a regular you aren't welcome.
The plans of the houses and surrounding area look good and would be a massive improvement on the eyesore that is there now.

| If it was down to me mate, there is no way it would be the same pub, END OF
The pub would have to change massively, but new management, new pub, new attitude, from the start. No late late night drinking. Rules and standards would be the difference.

My parents live on Central Drive. Not sure they'd be too chuffed about the demolition or building work but I know they don't care for the pub either.
Having said that, I'm sick of old buildings making way for cement-based single-glazed slungups so on that principle alone I'm against losing the pub.
I don't think any pub in Haydock is "nice" any more. It's about time the decents in the village claimed one back.

| I'm for the Wagon being brought back as a quality pub, not a drinking hole in the middle of the night pub it once was.
But we'll not get that if the pub is knocked down.

I was born in Central Drive and my Mum still lives there, she wouldn't go in the pub in the recent past but she doesn't want it knocked down and would love for the right person to manage it and make a GOOD pub once again.
Come on people join the cause.

| The Wagon is one of the oldest pubs int the whole of Merseyside, and certainly in the St.helens area.
Its sad decline in recent years has IMO been down to the change in pub ownership, from breweries to pub property companies.
The company that owned the Wagon didnt spend anything on its facilities and imo have systematically turned what was a fine pub into squalid place whose only patrons where ferile folk with nowhere else to go.
With investment the Wagon could again become a fine community pub. The bowling green and beer garden offer fantastic opportunities for an organisation with the will to grow a pub business.
The pub company(sic) that owns the place however has for a long time only seen a large plot of land that can be turned to a quick profit by filling it full of houses.
If anything i think the Wagon should be given listed building status.
It was completed shortly after the napoleonic wars, so its possible its first patrons could have been former solidiers who faught napoleon, or sailors who took part in the battle of Trafalgar.
Its architectural style is also different from most pubs in St.Helens. The Wagons proportions are more in keeping with the clasical Georgian style, than the Mock Gothic that is common throughout the St.Helens area.

Well did you know there is no building whatsoever in Haydock that has a listed status. I contacted the council and had them send me over a list of listed buildings (because they don't have the facility on their website, and there is not a single building from Haydock on that list.
If you have information that would give us the chance of getting the Wagon a listed status, either object to the planning or forward the info to me, I'm on a crusade with this one mate.
