| In following on from Saturdays game there is a lot of talk and comment about players such as Hepworth and Saxton and what they would bring to the Cas side now, having formerly been at Cas.
I'm also hearing comments about Greg Eden setting the world alight and 'why on earth did we let him go??'. Leigh fans are singing the praises of Brierley, and Cas must be stupid not to be playing him themselves.
Why do some players get a second lease of life outside Cas. What on earth is it that we do to them that stifles their enthusiasm and talent?
IMO, even Rangi is slipping backwards and not nearly making as many breaks as he did when he first joined. I'm sure that some will reply and say that it's because other teams are now much more aware of him and close him down etc. Yes, I don't disagree completely...however teams are aware of Tomkins, Roby, McGuire, Burrow and many others, however they seem to be breaking the opposition line often enough.
Rant over!!

| Rangi can't play well every week and didn't on Saturday. He's still one of the best players in the league. more assists then anyone by a long way. Not helped by the fact that danny orr's been pretty inconsistent this season too. But because he "tries" hard, Cas fans are quick to shy away from criticising Danny.

'"
Tomkins has Leulaui and Finch
Roby has Lomax and Hoaia
Burrow has Sinfield and Maguire
Maguire has Sinfield and Burrow
Chase has Orr and McGoldrick
It's pretty clear to see why teams are aware of Chase and are able to stifle our attacking threat compared to Wigan, Saints and Leeds. It's because we have no other credible threats. For example, if you focus on shutting out Sam Tomkins, you are just giving more space to Wigan's other playmakers who will punish you on their own. If a team shuts out Chase, it's left to Orr or <gulp> McGoldrick who simply cannot unlock Super League defences with the same magic.

Completely agree with that
Eden was never given a chance at Cas, we offered him a 2 year deal and so did Huddersfield, he went there because they have more chance of actually winning something than us. Plus they probably offered him a bit more money as well.
I don't think sidewards Tommy or Hepworth would offer us anything different to what we already have. Heppy played well against a poor SL side who clearly didn't turn up after the first 10mins of Saturday's game. Against stronger opposition I feel he wouldn't have got anywhere near what he achived Saturday.
We play the same move week in week out for each set that we have, Fev noticed that and if we can't fool a championship side (albeit a very good one) then what chance to we have of competing against the likes of Wigan, Leeds and Huddersfield. Even the fans know the exact move we're going to pull off in each run of the ball.
We need some fresh ideas and quickly, especially with being away at Wire this weekend!!

How about bringing Brierley back and playing him instead of McGoldrick? He would provide another attacking dimension. He has pace, a good step, a good kicking game and fitness.

That penny has long dropped for some of us but for others it needs to be a dustbin lid. If we lose Chase we'll struggle to score, let alone win, again.

Only having Rangi as a play maker are exactly the reason his stats are boosted. For us everything has to go through him, where as for other teams the work load can be spread.
Another player I forgot to mention in the original post....Blanch!

| Didn't Liam Watts knock at Cas' door only to be told he wasn't good enough for Superleague?
Willie Manu, was ok at Cas, but he's been great at Hull.

| I was sad to see Manu go, but as I remember, I think he only left when we were relegated otherwise I think he would have stayed. A real talented player who added some meat to our pack.

Yes, but they didn't really shine half as much for us as they have since gone on to do for others.

| I know things my look bad at the moment and i have had my fun today with the Cas fans at work but if you keep Millward next season and he is allowed to bring his own players in and get rid of some of your high payed ones that don't give a monkeys whether Cas win or lose I believe you will make the top 8 easy next season you may even make it this year there is a long way to go I am interested what you think to your club signing these players on long contracts then you are stuck with them if there form dips

| first of all get rid of Hudson - I bet he has quite a big wage packet that should be utilised elsewhere.
that's the thing we have no money and ambition - no players will ever come to cas over a top side like Warrington, Leeds etc, because we simply cannot offer a higher wage then the top clubs, and no ambition is there for all to see with signings such as Nash which have lit the whole Super League alight!!!

I'm all for long contracts if they're consistently good.
The backbone of Owen-Chase-Clark is excellent and now having our front row sorted for the next few years it's starting to look ok.
We really need some more competition for the three quarters and that has to be our priority this year.

That sidestep he has is brilliant.
Remember seeing him tear u20s teams to bits with it so good to see it works at a higher level.

| Whilst our home-grown players obviously have a strong connection to the town, do our players from other areas or from overseas ever truly develop an affinity for the place?
I know every player wants to win but when I see comments on twitter talking about how gutted they are to have lost, yada yada, I can't help but think whether or not they really feel it the way we all feel it - we being the people who've been enduring our team for years and will be for many more after the current squad have moved on. Do our home grown players have a duty to breed the passion for Castleford in those who've come from outside who ultimately make our squad stronger?
We've seen far too many 'un-Cas-like' performances this season for my liking but many fans seem more passionate than ever and the players seem to really appreciate this. Maybe this solidarity will help to breed a bit more passion from the current squad and ultimately result in some of the local young players staying with us rather than being exported to other parts of the country.

How the hell can we afford to have a player with that level of skill and pace out on loan??
Just watch his support play and tries around the 7.25 min mark, the 11.00 min mark and 11.38 mark on the video clip. Who do we currently have who supports like that with that level of pace and skill? Absolutely no one at present!! Now just imagine Chubbs drawing 2 or 3 men in, and offloading the ball to Brierley, it would definitely be an attacking option that we don't currently have and one which would have no problem fitting in at SL level.
We need him in our first team line up ASAP. If we end up losing this guy, who we've all known about for 3 or 4 years now, someone needs hauling over hot coals!!

I'm surprised he's not getting a starting place at Leigh. Time Millward brought him back and gave him a run-out in the Tigers 1st team IMO - we have nothing to lose now.

I can't understand it at all. He's clearly got talent, and is able to make the breaks and score the tries.
Yet Millward has never given him a chance, even though his big thing is bringing the youngsters through. Matterson never gave him a chance either!
