Featherstone's former Great Britain winger Gareth Raynor announces his retirement at the age of 34. Raynor, who played just two Championship matches for Rovers, says: "I've been used to playing at a higher level all my career." Featherstone coach Daryl Powell said: "It's obviously disappointing that Gareth has decided to retire but it's best for both parties if he's not able to fully motivate himself for playing Championship rugby."


Obviously the Championship is not good enough for him ......

Or, it's too hard? Probably dropped down for a bit of R & R but soon realized that it's not a cushy number down here in the ultra-competitive Championship.

Poor Gareth im guessing a player that Daryl Powell saw as a prop forward, out pacing him to the line was realization enough that its over.

Sounds like a few probs behind the scenes over there and on top of that Daryl Powell providing our players with perfect motivation for the next time we play them.

What are the "alledged" problems?

This is a tough league and no SL player who's dropped down has set the place alight yet whereas Hardaker has got a massive new contract after moving 'up' from the Champs.

The future is in the Championship, proper rugby league.

Dont know what Raynor was on but dont think he would come cheap. Maybe it allows Fev to free up some cash on another player that clearly feels that the Championship is good enough for him.

....he might be starting an online ink cartridge business!

Heard Andy Ellis from Wakey could be on his way to Fev!

Well he is available at the moment and to be fair would fit in with Fev`s no tackling policy.

I thought he was playing for London Skolars now.

Raynor was NOT on a big contract. In the end he cost us little. I wished it was different cos he was just starting to find his feet but hey ho, young Jack to come in and see how he goes.
The word on the street has it that Andy Ellis is in the bag too so we'll see how that goes. I'm intrigued with noises of other SL signings at Fev too. Going to be an interesting month.

Have to hope he can keep them all happy, last thing you want is unrest in the dressing room.

It depends if they get the same treatment as the Fax players got last week from Powell

However, looks like our chairman was right to only offer a pay as you play contract to one player who took Karl's offer to (play) for Fax! Value for money?? At least we can spend Dom's money on a replacement. Nanyn and Morro will have to be paid til the end o' their contracts!
