Just heard on Cas fans the sad news that former Fax halfback, Alan Marchant, died over the weekend.

Thats sad news.
I once met the guy randomly, think it was in leeds city centre, and he spoke to me for an hour about the olden days.

I haven't been supporting Fax long enough to know of him. Could someone please elaborate on his career with Fax, please?

Alan debut on 28/11/1959 v Wigan (joining from Featherstone) and last game was 22/8/1964 v Batley (he joined Hunslet for £3,500). He had 152 appearances (including 1 as sub) scoring 23 tries.

Described as the best defensive half back the club ever had at only 5 feet 7 inches he was famous for his tough clean tackling. He was brother of Jack Marchant who also played at Fax. He was captain of the Yorkshire winning cup team in 1963/64. But played at a time when fax where spending most of their time fighting relegation.

His biggest game was Wigan’s 20-16 defeat of Hunslet in 1965 Cup Final, which is often said to be the best cup final since the war as it was give and take game. He was the main reason the Hunslet Team got to Wembley. Indeed another sad loss.

are we sure this is the same Alan Marchant who played for us? On the Cas huddersfield game tonight they had a minutes silence for an Alan Marchant but it didnt seem to be the one who played for us?

Years ago, around '83/84/85 ish there was an Alan Marchant who assisted Dennis Hartley ( the Dennis Hartley !! ) with looking after the Castleford colts team when I was playing for Halifax. I'm thinking it must be the same ?

I have a feeling this might not be the same Alan Marchant that played for Halifax. Halifax's Alan Marchant was on the Past Players Association committee for a while, and I'm fairly cartain he wasn't Tony Matchant's father.
