Is it just me that finds it a bit weird that they're asking the fans to effectively buy him?!

Not really as several clubs run 'Squadbuilder' type funds and one of LISA's main advertising points is that the more members we have, the better players we can attract as we currently fund the wages of 3 players, and I believe that's rising to 4 this year.

Would make more sense if they had some kind of scheme, similar to yours.

To just call a meeting though and say, "look lads, we could sign a half decent player, we can't afford him though so can you buy him instead?" is a bit weird.

It is strange but you'd hope it might become more of an organised scheme in future. Having said that, it's probably not much different to the discussions that every club has with it's sponsors "we've got x player lined up but we're x amount short on his contract - fancy chipping in?"
