As for Hull FC. Their fans must be disappointed so far in light of their strong recruitment, but get Long back on the pitch and things will improve. I'd tip them to finish above us, but for neither club to pull up any stumps.'"
Yes we do seemed to have suffered cricket scores recently!

We as fans need to look at how far we've come as a club in the last few years, and the fact were gutted about getting beat by Hudds away goes to prove this even more so.'"
Unfortunatley 70% of Rovers current fans have no idea which division they were playing in 4 years ago never mind how well they were doing mate!!

| We're not really any more or less deserving than other clubs' fans. Most teams don't win anything most years - disappointment is normal, and we should be inured to it.
Lame displays from both clubs this weekend, especially Rovers toothless first 40 (worse than the second half against Wakefield? not quite IMO, but close). But Leeds are triple champions and the Giants are like Kryptonite to Hull KR.
I think the intensity of the derby, while great in itself, hinders both teams. Hull haven't won since, iirc, while Rovers couldn't rest/rotate players (as Hudds did against Salford), as they needed results to raise spirits.

It depends how you look at it IMO, we were consistent and deserved the position we finished with - But that doesnt mean we didnt over achieve throughout the season - even the club said stay up, consolidate and progress, not stay up, consolidate and then pressure the pointy end of the table.

Our potential indicated through preseason didnt show us as a top 4 team - thats why i say over achieved.

Me and my mate were chatting yesterday about the two Hull clubs. I know it's a sore subject but we were discussing about where we would be had we agreed to merge the two clubs. Both sets of fans travel in huge numbers so our combined away support would have been amazing. The home crowds would have been close to 20k every week. We reckoned that we would be one of the best sides in the league. Yes there would have been some initial fall out with the fan but a few years down the line that would have died out imo.
Anyway it never happened but it was an interesting discussion nevertheless.

I had similar discussions before the derby, our conclusion was they would need to build a stadium pretty much were the deep is for both set of fans to be anywere near close to been happy about the location.
We would also have to wear a Kit which makes us all look like Denis the Menace
I said a 22k average after the initial agro between both set of fans singing there own songs.
But after plenty of thought, i still could'nt come up with a decent team name or mascot.

One powerful club such as a FC/Rovers hybrid will do little for the game as a whole tho' and reduce competition ... with such a strong supporter base it may well blow the rest away!

| I don't see how the team we'd have would be any better than what either of us have currently got. We'd still only be able to spend up to the cap, and the one selling point of Hull in RL terms is the intensity of the derbies.
Take FC for instance, they are profitable (only one of 2 clubs in RL that are) they get the 2nd best average attendance in the league and play in a sparkley new stadium, Working on your predictions this should make them unbeatable yet they're still sh111te.
All the merger would have meant was we'd be an even more profitable sh111te side and hence a bigger disappointment.

| A merged Hull side would have pulled in less than FC do now IMO. Its because of the rivalry that has intensified in the last 3 years that crowds have gone up. A 1 team city would not have the same passion.
The only benefit would be Jr development, as the pool of players is currently shared amongst 2 clubs.

Wonder how many would just turn their backs on RL if this had happeneed. I said at the time I would not support a merged side and would probably stick to watching Dockers or East Hull. Still feel the same TBH.

| Speaking as a long time supporter i am extremely pleased at the progress Rovers have made in the last few years.....and as for the poster who reckoned 70% were newbies, i would think all clubs who have either gained promotion to Super League or moved to new stadiums fall into the same cateogary.

I think a merged team would easily attract 10-12000 fans pretty much every week. There are plenty of rugby fans out there who don't subscribe to the tribalistic rivallry that many supporters of both clubs currently do.
Long term one club in the Elite division is the aim imho, thats if the game hasn't gone bust by then.

Thats a big point. I dont live in Hull and therefore dont subscribe to the hate fc above all mentallity. If (big if) one team emerged and was going well it could well attract more fans from outside the city limits.
Someone mentioned salary cap, but if you have a team to compete and attract 15-20,000 a week then you attract the Haslers and the Kearneys and Bellamys of this world, who would work the miracles within.
Nice dream but will never happen.

No a definite nightmare
I would genuinely just stick to amateur if that nightmare ever happened.
