| Hull FC's injury problems have been a significant factor in their very poor form over the last 2 seasons. Not the only factor, but a significant one. In 2008 I think Rovers fans jumped on it as an excuse, believeing Hull fans were reluctant to admit HKR were capable of finishing above HFC under equal and normal circumstances. There may have been a element of that, but in fairness fans want to believe and it was just 1 bad year after several decent ones.
This year Hull fans have realized that injuries are a part of it, but that the problems ran deeper and have often acknowledged that. Some Rovers fans feel that 2 years of the same complaint gets a bit tired, but IMO that is harsh - they've had a really bad run. They've admitted they were poop, so we should admit that.
I am sure we all hope there are fewer injuries to talk about next year. I for one am sick of them whining on about it (joke!).

In terms of numbers, probably about the same number missing both years (6 through injury every week, plus Crocker and Lauaki who never turned up). The reason we can't claim injuries as the sole reason for our shocking results is Agar. His job was to get the maximum out of what he had available, depleted though it may have been. He didn't. Which makes me think next season will not be much better, despite the overall improvement in the squad.

cheers mate.
the big problem getting ozzies over here now is the interest rate.
last year it was .40 now its .54!
so a year ago you could offer a player 100,000 pounds and they'd get $250,000
now you offer them 100,000 pounds and they get $185185.
thats a massive reduction especially when you consider the big players (smith, inglis) are reportedly on $500,000 and players like lockyer and folau are on $400,000.
so Lockyer would need 216,000 pounds just to be on the same wage were as last year he'd have only needed 160,000 pounds.

Good post, I think even the most red tinted glasses wearer would see that FC's injuries have had an impact on there season. Where I think the arguement falls down a bit is with the complaint of not having a consistant run of a half back pairing. As far as I'm aware they had a reasonably injury free run at 6 and 7 this year (Horne got an inury late in the season I think). The fact they recruited an extremely poor No7 is the a major contributing factor they performed poorly last year.
Add that to the recruitment for next year a 34 (i think) year old No7 and I think they can expect him to miss 5+ games this season and more next. Similar with Fitzgibbon, I would expect him to have a spell on the sidelines through injury, purley on an age factor. So IF this happens then its no longer bad luck, merely recruitment of players that you can expect a level of injury from.

Most teams' fans can glumly contemplate a dismal run of form and curse their bad luck without having their noses rubbed in it quite as much as them. The big exception would be us - not entirely coincidentally.

Agree with that, we recruited poorly in what is arguably the most pivotal position in RL. And next year we have put all our eggs in a 33 year old basket (Born sept 24 1976)

Before my arrival, but the old timers tell a tale of a monstrous thread that went by the name of 'Joynt's Voluntary Tackle.' Sounds like an Edwardian angling accessory.
From the RLFans dictionary (really):
Joynt's Voluntary Tackle: Long-standing thread on the Bradford board stemming from the accusations that Saints captain Chris Joynt executed a voluntary tackle in the closing stages of the 2002 Grand Final, an offence referee Russell Smith did not notice or did not consider worth a penalty which, converted, would have handed Bradford victory rather than the usual defeat. The thread soon strayed away from its original topic and was considered a protected species until being unexpectedly locked after over two years of existence. Rescued and transferred out of its redamberandblack.com ghetto, it found a wider audience in the Virtual Terrace but has since disappeared for good.
Anybody got a link to it? Was it really as big as they say?
