| I'm a roving member. £60 for about £190 worth of stuff.
I'm actually feeling a bit guilty, which wasn't what was planned. Do you think I should phone the shop and point out this disparity?

| Sad to say but unfortunately the Hull fans taking the p on here are quite right. I personally feel like i am being blackmailed into becoming a member. We really can't afford to lay out £120 for the two of us, plus possibly for our 16 year old daughter, the only way we could do it is by putting it on credit which I really don't want to do. Times are very hard for many of us. I'm seriously thinking it's not even worth me getting a pass next season, there'll be no benefit. I'm already beginning to feel like a second class fan and it's not nice.
Had it been Hull who had launched this scheme, we'd all have been laughing at them for being held to ransom by their board.

| £60 to BUY money can't buy benefits!!! I think the new commercial manager has fell on his head.
I will choose NOT to spend £60 on becoming a member of, at its best, an illusion of smoke and mirrors of a membership scheme.
He has missed a trick methinks...why not have season pass standard..season pass silver..and season pass gold. All with an increase in value based on inflation and added benefits.
No, i just don't get it at all. If pass prices go up a lot, then for me and my daughter..no more passes and no more HKR
We will be down at East Park putting £2 or £3 each towards Dockers ARLFC

Nobody is blackmailing anybody It doesn't make it a bad scheme just because RoversTrace can't afford it Buying a pass next year will get you exactly the same as what buying a pass got you this year.

You'll be saving £42 (East Stand £179 vs £221) or £50 (West Stand £210 vs £260) on season tickets. So, in some respects I don't think the membership itself will be the issue. Season ticket prices might be though. It is the whether you pay part of it now and a small premium for the additional benefits... or not. If you choose the latter, I don't think that anybody would regard you as a second class fan, equally if you don't get a pass and pick and choose games, that doesn't make you less of a fan. As you say, times are tough. The club does still need to bring in revenue though and, compared with most Hull fans, I'm confident it'll be reinvested in the club.
edit: The membership will have only a 'nominal' renewal fee and you'll get a 2011 pass at 2008 prices with it too. [iIf[/i you can afford it, it seems like a no-brainer.

Check your facts.
This year got you a discount on your shirt. Next year you pay £60 for the same privilege.
This year being a member of the RSG got you 10% discount in the shop all season. Next year you pay £60 and get £5 off in September when there's nowt left anyway.
This year you had an equal chance to any other passholder of getting a ticket for the KC derby. Next year as a passholder you will be fourth in line for a KC ticket behind 1. the first 2500 club rovers members 2. the rest of the members 3. juniors, who get their swaps 4. passholders.
Exactly the same yeah?
No, I can't afford it, and I know many other people who can't either.

You are taking this far too personally Tracey. Times are hard for a lot of people at the minute but should that mean that Rovers should postpone initiatives like this until everybody gets back on their feet?
Enough people will be able to afford it to make it a significant revenue stream for Rovers...and we clearly need the money.
People who start classing themselves as "second class fans" are being melodramatic in my opinion.

I would expect everyone to take it personally to be perfectly honest as all our situations are different. I speak as one who has had to give up Rovers for financial reasons before and hoped it wouldn't happen again.
If you think I'm being melodramatic, that's up to you, you're entitled to your opinion - I won't lose any sleep over it. It remains to be seen what the uptake is.
I wonder how many people will renew their RSG membership next year now they don't get 10% off in the club shop, which for many was the only reason for joining. As this money goes directly to the club, that will need to be written off against any profits made.

Tbh, an average would be wise to join, cash flow permitting. It is a one off payment, with a nominal renewal fee in 2010, according to the brochure. Ignoring the contradiction there, in the long-term it is going to be worth it - the money you save on the 2010 pass alone makes back most of your investment.

I thought that the primary purpose of the Rovers Supporters Group was to raise vital funds for the club and not merely to give its members 10% discount in the club shop? I dont think that it will affect membership at all to be honest and im sure that the club will offer other "perks" to the RSG to pass onto its members.

MELODRAMATIC
Well I never..I'm going to put on my floppy hat and velvet cape, run wildly down my mahogany staircase, burst through my scullery door, squeeze the serving maid, slap my valet and then throw myself with wanton abandon onto the patio of my ornamental garden !! until someone splashes my ruddy complexion with water (french spring water, of course).

It certainly wasn't mine. I joined to help the club out and can probably count on 1 hand the amount of times I've used my RSG card to get shop discount.

That is the aim of the RSG, but have you ever been to a monthly meeting, there are usually about 7 or 8 of us there. Many people joined in the queues for season passes in the last few years, encouraged to do so with the prospect of getting a discount off your pass and 10% off any other purchase during the year. Some joined and have had no involvement since.

| Moving the fringe benefits to the new membership is a good decision by the club. People go on about the club moving forward off the field and increasing income is a huge part of that. Who knows, maybe they can't afford to give these discounts on such a large scale anymore without any direct income in return.
To criticise it because you can't personally afford it has nothing to do with whether this a good thing for the club or not. I'm undecided on if I'll join yet, but I can still see it's a good thing for the club moving forward. I've seen Rovers change considerably, especially in last 4 years, and I hope this is another step in the right direction.
All this talk of "second class fans" is selfish garbage. Come match day, Club Rovers members, season pass holders and people who pay on the gate all watch the same game of Rugby together and cheer on the same team.
