The kid has some real quality about him, but I think he could fill a some kind of niche role as some type of second-rower or loose-forward in years to come but that would need a coach of the ilk as Justin Morgan who would have the vision to create that type of niche role for him - similar to the way JM turned Lovegrove into a forward. I just think if he's left as a three-quarter, he'll end up along the lines of Yeaman.

Even though he's an FC player, I want the kid to do well just like all the young British players coming through at all clubs.

The amount of stick Fox has taken from some of your lot has been sad. Most of us wished T. Briscoe well and I won't laugh at his misfortune now. Zod is clearly taking the pee, which is cruel, but hardly unprovoked.








Look at the very first post on this thread to see that it started that way, rather than descending into it. Some people (from both sides) only care about getting one over on the other.

Peter Fox is a nice kid and it's comments like the one above which is why I've felt the need to educate the FC fans about why Tom Briscoe des not have the athletic ability to play at international level unlike Fox.

Through my well reasoned and articulate posts based on hard evidence of the game this afternoon, FC fans fail to win the debate so they try to engineer/derail the thread away from the original thread which is a regular trait of Mrs B when she can't win a debate.

Similarly, Mrs B has tried to discredit my posts by inferring that I think Fox is as good as Offiah which is total fabrication. In hindsight, when mentioning Fox and Offiah in the same sentence, I should have given far more detail in terms of why.

I have never claimed that Fox is anywhere near as good as Offiah, I simply stated that Fox is the closest thing I've seen to Offiah in terms of style (certainly not abilty) in terms of the type of tries he's scored.

Back on the original debate which Mrs B has tried to derail.

Many folk toe the line to be protective about Tom Briscoe in respect of the fact he's 19 and making his way in the game but today proved the harsh reality he does not have the athletic ability to play in the three-quarters at international level.

I'm proud to be English and I want to see us win the competition.

I personnally thought this may happen and geniunely hope Tom Briscoe does not take his withdrawal to heart too much.

Zod's comments about Fox delivering a quicker ball return then Briscoe i agree with but with the Aussies on the front foot as they were in the 1st half any winger would have struggled.
I doubt this thread will be around next week as Smith should select the team that finished the game today and having Tom Briscoe on the bench would not make sense.

Agree with all that.A couple of people have said he took a bad knock with 7 minutes to go in the first half and was in trouble, don't know whether that's true. TBH I think Smith had painted himself into a corner in that Briscoe played pretty well up to this point and hadn't played himself out of contention, but he should not have been played in the game IMO. I don't see him as a winger, let alone at this level.

1) Some FC fan gobs off (in this case about Tom Briscoe being picked ahead of Fox).

2) Some more FC fans join in.

3) The proof in the pudding shows that Briscoe isn't good enough and shouldn't have been anywhere near the starting line up. Therefore, FC fans look stupid.

4) I come on the thread to provide analysis of why Briscoe was substituted.

5) FC fans like Mrs Barista try and derail thread to save face.

For starters, I don't need to "save face". Proud as I might be that a young FC player has been selected, I expressed doubts about Briscoe's selection for the bigger games at this stage of his career a couple of weeks ago.

Your comment about me "inviting vitriol" is frankly ridiculous. You've been "gobbing off" in the style of a Hull FC fan for 53 posts that Briscoe's not up to it and Fox, with his multiple examples of Offiah-esque brilliance is. Look at all the people you've argued with about this today. If Fox is selected and isn't up to the standard you've been banging on about for the last 24 hours, you will look silly and there will be plenty of supporting material to remind you of your misjudgement. Clearly that won't be the case with Fox's speed, athleticism and agility which is clearly many country miles ahead of Briscoe and too much for NZ to cope with.

So instead of treating this like a simple RL forum to discuss RL, you admit you use it as a vehicle to discredit people's opinions by engineering respective quotes to manufacture a point - sad.

As for Fox, he's a great kid and an exciting RL player. He might play well, he might play bad, but he more than deserves his chance against NZ or Australia.

I wouldn't say he was at fault for the tries as isolated plays, no.

However he was at fault for slow and laboured kick returns which invited pressure. As soon he he was removed, the problem was eradicated as the scoreboard proved.

So the fact that the Aussies went through the motions in the 2nd half, coupled with the fact that Smith was moved out of his disasterous centre position had nothing to do with it. It was all down to the fact that 1 winger, in your and nobody else's opinion, was slow at returning kicks.
