2019 Challenge Cup Round Five Draw
The fifth round of the Coral Challenge Cup saw the entry of the four Super League sides who took part in last season’s middle eights competition as the minnow crossed their fingers and hoped for a fantastic away day at Leeds Rhinos, Hull KR, Salford Red Devils or London Broncos.
There were sixteen names in the draw with St Helens amateur side Thatto Heath Crusaders the lowest placed side, joining the surviving Betfred Championship and Championship One sides in the hat.
League legend Martin Offiah and Steve Prescott Foundation's Linzi Prescott drew the balls at the Boxpark at Wembley Stadium

| Home to Leigh, pretty uninspired stuff, but a great draw if you happen to be Joe Cator.

Crap draw for us also (different reasons obviously). Overall it's a poor draw, no obvious games for BBC TV/Live Streaming.

| Playing it on Thursday 11th, sensible decision by the club and gives us a great turnaround for Easter

| Think both clubs agreeing to the Thursday shows both are thinking of Good Friday and the Easter block of games. They have Widnes and I'd suggest that is more important to them as a club? Big positive in an 8 day turnaround. Personally I like Thursday games as it's my day off but appreciate it isn't convenient for some?

| I can see why both clubs want it, would have preferred Saturday or Sunday. What it does show is the stupidity of the Easter programme, why when we are playing some teams three times do we need to cram two games over three days? Just a good job the BBC don’t want to show our game.

I think you've nailed it there Craig. Does it also give you a seven day turnaround from your Leeds game? Just a four day turnaround for us there from our Barrow game. However, I'm pretty certain that Leigh wanted Thursday or Friday. From our point of view, the maximum amount of recovery time is essential, as we won't have any Saints players to rely on this Thursday, and I suspect we may not get much from them over Easter, either. That leaves us with a very small squad to get us through the cup tie and Easter - so go easy on us, eh?
Hopefully Joe Cator will be available on Thursday. He was sin-binned for a dangerous throw on Sunday, but any suspension would be likely to take effect at Easter. Unusually, Stef Marsh was also yellow carded for holding down in the same tackle. You don't see that very often, but then we don't get Ben Thaler very often, in the Championship!

Ah, but the good thing is, there aren't many to disagree with me! Lately, there are very few on our forum either.

| Leigh look to have quite a strong team even without the Saints players. It's good that they seem to have got back on their feet.
The previous 3 fixtures between the clubs have seen the championship team beat the Super League team and away from home too. It's not beyond the realms that it could happen again. Hope the Leigh fans have a good day out.

| Now then Alan.. I agree with Bob in that despite the dual reg players missing it still looks a good side, particularly the backs.Might be a lot closer than some think?

I hope so Craig, although our interests (and possibly yours?) have to lie in Easter weekend. Still, no player or coach is going to exit such a prestigious competition, without giving it his best shot. Whilst I still feel you are huge favourites, one thing Duffy has instilled into our squad, is a passion and togetherness that was never displayed by our team of 'mercenaries' last year. They all demonstrate a pride in the shirt - even the Saints lads, when they play. The level of fitness has been high, when compared with full time sides such as Toronto and Toulouse, but Thursday takes it to another level. Most of our games this season, have been excellent to watch - even the defeats - so hopefully, on Thursday, it will be another such game.
And hopefully, we both steer clear of injuries!

| Few ways to look at that game. First thing, Leigh played well and deserved the win. No frills tough uncompromising RL from them. I don't think we played that bad but with only 1 prop and he deciding to play like a wet trump we had zero grunt in the middles. Not unlike the Hudds game. If we don't have at least Garbutt and one of Lannon or Jewitt against the Pogs it will be more of the same.Mulhern needs a rocket up his ringer. Positives are being in next round and Linnett again showing up. Think Lee and Shaw may be cited? After slick attack v Leeds it was laboured tonight . Not the best way to go into a Derby but a nice gap to rest and train and see what befalls them on Saturday.? Can we sign Adamson olease?

Leigh deserved to win we were poor in my mind I know we only had one prop but the amount of pressure we had on there goal line and seemed absolutely clueless how Drinkwater keeps getting picked in front of Atkin is beyond me and I’ve a feeling we’ll end up losing him the only positive is we won’t have a early hours visit from AAlder who must have been creaming himself with 10 mins to go

| When you pulled it back to 10-8 with 7 minutes left, I wasn't that surprised you went on to win the game (listening to the commentary) We didn't have that much ball 2nd half, due to conceding penalties and mistakes. BUT when the commentator thought Joe Cator had scored midway through 2nd half, I thought "Yes, we're going to win this !" Sadly for us it was not to be, but after they way you played at Saints and home to Leeds in your previous 2 games, proud of our Lads. Good luck v Hull next week...

| The prop thing is a real worry now. Hopefully Garbutt was just a precaution, because with Masoe now out for several weeks it is already looking pretty grim.
Ahhh, the romance of the cup.
Credit to Leigh though - to travel over after a day’s work can’t be easy.

| I bet, just checking the live updates was pretty depressing until towards the end.
Winning with no Scruton, Greenwood, Masoe, Garbutt, Jewitt or Lannon, our lads deserve some credit too. It can’t be easy for Lawler for example. The fates do seem to enjoy trampling on my hopes - the one thing I felt confident about this year was that I wouldn’t be writing games off because our pack was too lightweight. Or at least not as many. That went well.
