Theres 20000 school kids playing the game in London

Im not sure which was to take this post.

In any case they seem to have found an excellent player in the centre McMeekin.

The 16's march on again. A great side to watch and its nice to notice that there seems to be a great spirit between everyone in the squad not just the majority from HFH.

Heres hoping we keep the vast majority of them when it swings round to signing on time.

How did the 18's get on today?

Sky always harp on about the amount of kids playing the game in London, there's a fraction of that many playing in Widnes and we still managed to batter them!!

We seem to forget that we get jack all for winning any games below first team level.

We do have the luxury of picking players up from outside the borough which we still do but have done on greater numbers when there havent been any Widnes sides in the Prem at 16's level.

Some of those today will play first team for Quins eventually which is all that matters really.

They won.

No idea on the score as I went after the 16's having freezed my t!ts off watching them and the ressies.

Surely though it must at least show that Widnes are capable of bringing good youngsters through the ranks.

Are we saying then that none of the lads in the U16's will get to play in the 1st team but the Quins ones will eventually play in theirs??

I couldn't say for definate, but I would have thought that of those 20,000 mentioned, not all of them play on a regular basis. I was under the impression that there is a lot RFL community and development work that goes on in London and part of that involves going into schools and giving taster lessons to kids. The point is that if the RFL go into say 20 schools and give lessons to a total of 2,000 kids can the RLF include those 2,000 as part of how many kids play RL in London?

If there really are 20,000 kids all playing RL regularly in London then fiar play to them, but I'm always a bit dubious about figures quoted about London and always wonder if the figures have had a bit of RFL added spin.


Well done to all of the Widnes teams who played today (well technically yesterday now). I know we're not exactly having it all our own way this year with the 1st team, but the set up now in place at Widnes it can only strenthen us over the coming years.

Under 18's won quins 42 - 28

3 out of 4 isnt bad going.

My point was mainly about the main goal being the production of players for the first team raher than individual results at each level.

Some of those 16's will hopefully continue to develop and make the grade in the first team as will some of their Quins counterparts.

The game that I missed but I believe that it was a first run out in the back row for Scott Cullen the gaffers son.

Those results(16/1icon_cool.gif are amazing-The Quins youth set up is really pushing on. I watched both the 16 and 18's push the Wigan sides to the last minute a couple of weeks ago

McMeekin is in the England set up-Some size for his age.(Centre)

Ive been watching the London youth for a number of years and only now do you see the kids coming through who have played league from day 1-in the past it was footballers, union etc having a go-Mcarthy Scarsbrook and Clubb etc. They youth teams have a lot more structure to there game these days.

I have said it many times before whenever we play leigh we under perform and have done for years, and who wants Leigh hospitality? a bowl of Lobby and comedian Allan Rowley? no wonder they got back on the bus and escaped asap.
