There is a fair bit of assumption here but I'm bored..

I've read with some interest on the VT that the Crusaders are looking to draw another good crowd on Sunday (around 8 - 9k).
This has got me thinking that should the next round of franchises go the way they are currently expected to (i.e. Us in and Crusaders saved for another three years), then having the Crusaders in SL would be a good thing for us.
In the first instance it would be good to have another relatively close game.
Secondly the crowds that they are raising currently always make for a good atmosphere and hopefully they would bring a decent number of travelling fans by 2012.
Thirdly, the 'relationship' between the two sets of supporters could add a bit of spice and generate interest in the media and amongst the stay aways in the same way that games against Warrington used to draw in the occasional match goers.
What say you?

I am actually surprised at the attendances.Maybe because the football team is crap in wrexham, so nothing else to do?We should have marketed from chester and wrexham areas years ago?If we did get a license, then it could be a good derby game,with a decent away following.This would help our home attendances with wire,saints and wigan also bringing a few.

Like I said elsewhere, if Tricky Dicky is true to his word about a team definitely coming up and definitely winning the NRC or having a league final under their belt then we should not look at Crusaders with any threat whatsoever. They are another local derby to get out teeth into so in spite of some of their fans I hope they succeed and obviously that we meet them in SL. There's a few ifs and buts though.

Can't say it wont bother me though about the way certain neutral fans will react to such a clash. People will inevitably put words in our mouths.

It's like if there was a thread started called.. "if one of us had won the lottery last weekend who would we have bought for the club?"..
You wouldn't expect people turning up at the bottom of the thread to give you a reality check.

But we seem to be the only fans in Rugby League who cannot talk about the possibility without being called arrogant.

Nothing is taken for granted by Widnes fans. We have had far too many false dawns and bitter disappointments for that to happen.

I actually wish them well. Just because I didn’t agree with their initial inclusion, or they way they have simply been shunted ooop north, doesn’t mean to say I hold the club or it’s fans in contempt. I dislike the dishonesty and double standards of the RFL, and that’s where any discontent I have is aimed.

If the Crusaders can pull in 7000/8000, you can only applaud it. We could actually see an expansion club which is actually viable. Fanbase is one of the most important metrics imo. That is what helps you grow exponentially, and keeps your wealthy backers wealthy and happy to keep digging – but less deeply – into their pockets.

North Wales is starved of top class sport and could be a very fertile area for the sport to grow. It seems better already than the club based in the South. My main concern is the complete lack of an amateur scene in North Wales and being reliant on a youth system based 150 mile away. Let’s hope the Crusaders and the RFL can put a bit of effort into developing this area too.
