Okay, played poop and won but what a finish, considering the players that were missing/rested i thought some players really stepped up. Dave Houghton MOM for me, Haggerty will be a real force when he gets fit but needs another 3 hit outs before we start seeing the real damage he can cause.

Anyone know if Pickersgill/Allen/Doran/Davies were rested or injured? either way a cracking performance considering the personnel missing. With Gaskell/Flynn/Dean also to come back the squad has plenty of quality in backup as proved today.

I want to see Hulmey as well this season. Its the legacy of the name I suppose, but it would be fantastic to see a Hulme playing for us again.

All of our forwards were excellent today. Haggy has made an immediate impact. He looked absolutely goosed for most of the game too. When he gets fully match fit he’ll be awesome.

Gannon was MOM for me. Bl00dy great attitude and aggression from him today. He’s finally got a pack around him that is capable of not being bullied and out-muscled.

Yes, well done to Houghton and Kav. I thought Kav was excellent, until his silly bit of indiscipline.

We do need to try and get the ball out wide more. There was a bit too much going up the middle. I’m not too sure if that has anything to do with confidence in our goal kicking. I hope not anyway.

Haggy is the bruiser we needed, nobody will be messing with him this year, Houghtons work rate was very good and he deserved his try. Kavanagh again was very good but Catic is a right sh[ii[/ithouse.

Maybe one or two who played were under the weather too based on the first 65 minutes.

Was told that we have 2 signings to come next week. No idea of positions or indeed if there's any truth in it but one of them is supposedly a goalkicker.

Nobody can touch us attendance wise in this league, we doubled the Leigh gate today and that was the second highest.

I think weve seen a dip across the board, the recession has bitten hard but Widnes fans always come out when needed as proved today. The early rounds of the NRC are always less attended than a league game.
