Millward did reveal that the Centurions had tried to sign Wigan Academy front row man, Ben Davies.
"He would benefit from first team football, and since he is a Leigh youngster, who played with Leigh East, and goes to college in Leigh, we had hoped that Wigan would help out their neighbours," added Millward.
"But then we find out they have let him go to Widnes instead. That was a real sickener for us."

I wonder if Wigan have some sort of unofficial rule that they are not keen on helping out Leigh or letting players go there even on loan? As he is from Leigh do you think maybe he wanted to go there but Wigan refused him? Or maybe Wigan are just refusing to help out Ian Millward given their past history with each other?

I thought that as well actually given the fact that he is a Leigh lad. [iOr[/i they still see Widnes as a great club held in fine esteem by those in RL with a superior set-up both on and off the field and therefore better placed to help him further enhance his qualities?   |

This has been on the cards for a while and they are all set to join on a set date as per the the agreement between both clubs. Ben is a great talent and we have 2 crackers in him and Kavanagh.

Just because he's from Leigh and goes to college there, where should Leigh expect him to be sent there on loan?
If you speak to Widnes players you hear nothing but praise for the set up these days, Wigan obviously feel he will learn more at Widnes, where he grew up is irrelevant.

I would think the club has the final say as to wether a player goes to another club on loan and which one it is. They are the ones who hold his registration and are paying his contract after all.
