Its a good thing that Child is that good he will be reffing SL games next season and not ruining CC games. The ref we had a on Friday didnt seem to know what he was doing with the new adaption of the rules - penalised us one minute for driving a player into touch then letting Saints do the same thing and giving a drop out.

You would think they would let a friendly game flow a little but the while game turned into a farce, i dont think ill be attending friendlies anymore because they're turning into a joke and are just practice for the refs and the whistle.

I think we'd all want that to happen. The ref on Friday for us wasn't exactly against Fax he just didn't know where to be, running round like a headless chicken half the time. A lot of poor refs out there at the moment.

The tiit was clueless and he has made a right prat of himself.

I thought Matt Gardner was rubbish, VM. He never ran forward with the ball once. Every time he got the ball he ran sideways, either towards the South Stand or the North.

I’ve come to the conclusion that Lee Doran in thick. He rarely played the ball properly, was warned, and yet carried on until he did it in front of his own line and was penalized, resulting in another Salford try. Perhaps a spell in the West Bank Bears under 7’s learning basic rugby skills would do him a bit of good.

Picks seemed to have borrowed Ben Blacks hands for the day. Even Gaannon wasn’t his usual self. Houghton was poor again too. We really need to get Haggy fit soon.

Our best player was Ben Kavanagh. In fact I think it’s the best I’ve seen him play in a Widnes shirt.

Danny Hulme looked lively and wasn’t afraid to get stuck into his share of tackling. Unfortunately, due to Coyle’s dismissal, he was playing from acting half a little more than I’d like to have seen him.

Yes, it wasn’t a full-strength side, but that was our injury back-up team and it was poor.

Child was everything I expected him to be. Thank god he’ll be in SL this season. It almost makes the Championship seem a preferable place to be.

Both coaches and the ref agreed at half time that 13 v 13 would make the game more useful to the teams. Hence Widnes being allowed to bring on a replacement in the second half when a player was sinbinned.

Any idea what the penalty count was? About 40 each at a guess.

I thought Gardner was decent in terms of his running? or am i on my own, he was looking for a gap and was trying to expose the the centre and winger and put a nice pass to Thackeray in the second half which seen him make a break. In reality the whole team was poor on the day and i seen little from anyone in the pack to give me great confidence.

Seems a total contrast from Tuesday.

What worries me is that nobody has a decent kicking game?The kicks to touch only gain us 5 yards.Why cant they pump it to at least gain us 20 metres?One good kick today and that was from coyle.But on the chase he banged the guy and consequences he was sent off.For me gardner and kavanagh where the best players.Doran not playing the ball properly,pickersgill losing the ball alot,grady is not a centre,webbo and thacks poor.When will smith start scooting from dummy half?So many bad plays, and to not get a point at home was woeful.Yes near full strength salford side, but to be honest i thought salford where made to look good.
