I'm probably being a bit slow, but I've just looked at the link in the squad list to the quota rules.
viewtopic.php? ... highlight=
In terms of the definition of "homegrown", it says: "home grown" = any player still under 21 and/ or has completed 3 years service with same club"
So if everyone's contract were renewed, we'd have:
Tony
Yeaman
Raynor
R Horne
Dowes
Radford
Tickle
Washbrook
Whiting
King
Manu
G Horne
Thackray
Houghton
Briscoe
Burnett
Lee
Hall
Hodgson
all classed as "homegrown", i.e. 19 players?
So for the 8 overseas (inc 5 quota) spots we'd have:
Crocker
Berrigan
Lauaki
+ 2 quota spots
+3 Kolpak
Is this right?

| The quota next season is 6 overseas players with 5 max quota players.
So far we have the following signed up for next season:
Berrigan - quota
Crocker - quota
Lauaki - quota
Manu - overseas player(kopac)

Nope.
Read the operational rules:
Quote ‘Club Trained Player’: a player who has been on the Club’s register for any 3 full Seasons before the end of the Season in which he ceases to be eligible by age for Academy rugby league. For the 2008 Season only this shall be amended to 1 full Season and for the 2009 Season only this shall be amended to 2 full Seasons.'"
Quote ‘Federation Trained Player’: a player who, for any 3 full Seasons before the end of the Season in which he ceases to be eligible by age for Academy rugby league has been on one of the Club’s register or the register of another Club being a member of the same rugby league federation.'"
I highlighted the bit in bold for you.

Wrong rules..... under the rules brought in last year any overseas player signed prior to 2007 is exempt from the quota if he decides to sign an extension.

| Nope.
I take this from the operational rules again:
Quote Operational Rules – Section B1 - General Competition Rules – Issue 7 – February 2009'"
Feb 2009. Think about it? What would be the point of it, if you can sign a player and then they are off-quota after three years.
Tony and Manu will never be off quota. Tony will in all probability - I'm guessing - be released at the end of the season with all his injury problems anyway.

They won't be if they sign now, they had to be signed before the RFL changed the rules. They changed it so players that have showed loyalty to the british game (such as Gene) could sign an extension without effecting the quota of clubs.

Gene was given dispensation at the discretion of the RFL due to his long-standing commitment to the game, which is far more worthy than that of Manu and Tony.
Neither of them will be coming off-quota. Tony - due to his NZ allegiance will count as quota, and Manu counts as non-federation trained.
The quota drops to six next season too remember.

The RFL last week relaxed the rule, giving clubs dispensation to "renew or extend the contracts of any 'non-federation players' over and above the current limit which applies, providing those players were under contract with them prior to introduction of the club-trained player rules in June 2007".

| That doesn't say they come off quota.
They did that because it was too late for them to find new clubs, what with everybody else in the same boat (see Rinaldi).
That doesn't apply to anyone after this season. Basically, anyone who was non-fed last season coming off contract was able to renew their contract without counting on the quota. That does not apply beyond 2008/2009 off-season.

| A federation player is someone who has trained at another english club for 3 years before he's 21.
A club trained player is someone who has trained at your club for 3 years before he's 21.
A non federation/overseas player is someone who has not trained at a english club for 3 years before he's 21.
A quota player is the same as the above and does not own a european passport(its what is normally refereed to as a kopac player).
Next year clubs need 8 club trained players, a max of 5 quota players and a max of 6 non fed player(the quota players are included in this number).
Last year they gave special dispensation(the stanley gene rule) to the number of non fed players you can have in your team as long as they joined your club before the new rules came into effect, the only condition was that they had to resign for the same club.

| How the quota rules effect Hull:
assuming our stranded players finally get visas, we have 2 spots left to sign/resign overseas players.
Out of contract are:
Cusack
Tony
Moa
We may be able to sign Motu due to the Gene ruling from last year and still sign 2 more players, dont quote me on that tho not sure if that only applied to last season or not.
Not that i see our board been clever enough to use that loophole.
As for the 8 young players we need in the squad, i dont think that will be a problem considering we can field a starting 13 full of players who trained at Hull for 3 years before they was 21.
Personally I can see us signing a new player(a scrum half hopefully, but a second row most likely) and resigning one of the out of contract players.
