Not doubting you, but could you expand on that (maybe with examples) as it is confusing for me at least!
What does the first sentence mean in practical terms?
Secondly, what are the RFL rules on severance agreements that we would need to comply with?
Cheers

The first bit means that the cap value of a player isn't just his wages - it includes all forms of remuneration he [imight[/i receive with the exception of prize money. If a player contract stipulates a severance payment then it will be included in his cap value (averaged over the length of his contract).
The second bit I have no details on. The rules just state that if there is no severance payment specified in the player contract the club and player have to negotiate an approved deal. Once the deal is approved the player comes off the cap. The link to the rules I posted earlier goes into a little more detail but not much.

Well no, we let him talk to another club and get another (probably larger) deal.
Its not Seymour choice to see out his deal!

Mine is that, for a back, he is not fast enough to be a real threat. Look at his try against Leeds, he hardly streaks away and he runs at the same pace as a prop.
Are you also inferring that Crooks has stood out ?
If you check I also said that Crooks has done a job, hardly a criticism.'"
Briscoe isn't that fast either but he's a real threat!!

Thanks for that. Reading that, one would assume the latter is more likely as having it in the contract would "waste" cap space, which is very valuable assuming you are aiming to spend full cap.
Not sure I agree with Sheldon stating he might get a pay rise elsewhere. If he is on a generous contract with us, he might be lucky to get 50K per year less! Especially if there is no demand for him from the NRL.

| My understanding of the cap is that it's for players who actually play. If Seymour doesn't play for us next year, he wouldn't count on the cap, so if we paid him off it wouldn't affect us.
Could be wrong, but that's the simple explanation I've had for it.

I was tempted to mock him with the suggestion Hull hold out for a fee.
On the other hand he's not that bad and any half decent 6/7 with NRL experience and, crucially, a visa should have decent shot at getting a gig. Bradford may well be losing both Jeffries (possibly retiring?) and Sammut, Salford have lost Smith and almost certainly Holdsworth. Orr's finishing. We're supposedly getting £100k for the injured-more-often-than-not-in-2012 Blake Green.
I do suspect Hull will have to indirectly subsidise his wages though.

| Briscoe is fast, but can't think of a club without a player that couldn't catch up to him, plenty of them wouldn't able to bring him down on their own though!

| Some players have a knack of scoring when they break clear no matter how quick they are. Gary Schofield wasn’t a speedster as such but I never saw him get caught once away. Briscoe has that knack.

| Quote ="carl_spackler"Firstly, I think that to suggest a back cannot be a real threat unless they are quick is not true, it depends what else is in their game and it's early doors for Crooks in that regards. Secondly, I think you're way OTT about how 'slow' Crooks is. He's not lightning fast, but he's quick enough for centre. I certainly don't think he's any slower than Whiting was there, nor Yeaman really. Jamie Lyon has also never had pace to burn but he's still been a top class centre. Pace is an advantage, but not a fundamental requirement unless ridiculously slow.
I wasn't just referring to the post I quoted, either. You have commented on Crooks a few times now and been fairly critical IMO. No, he has not stood out, but I'd agree with Tommy that I don't expect 18/19 year old debutants to immediately stand out. In fact, I'm actually impressed that he hasn't stood out more for looking out of place.'"
Agreed I have commented on Crooks lack of pace a could of times, I see that as an observation rather than a criticism. It's not as though I have slated him for poor play, there would be no ground for that.
I think you are mixing up an objective view for criticism. There were far too many overstating his qualities after his debut, a little like what happened when Lee, Washbrook, Lyne et al made their debuts.

Of course it's Seymours choice. He signs a deal for a fixed period of time. Should he be offered anything different by the club it's Seymours decision as to accept or see out the rest of his contract.

I can see the opportunity for clubs to sign players on Three year deals when verbally it is agreed the player will play for just two and get the final year as a severance payment. It's too easy to avoid the cap with this an enables a club to "overpay" a player without falling foul of the cap rules.

No it's not, we can pay his contract out in full and there's nothing he can do about it.

Its a flaw in the plan, thankfully most clubs can't afford to do it.

| Smailes doesn't seem to think we'll sign anyone from the NRL for next year, so that would be the NRL prop rumours put to bed, assuming he's correct.

Yesterday, on hullkrfans.co.uk. We're stupid to pay it, in my view.
