Agree 100%. Ive always rated Berro and still think he is a star. But for whatever reason or excuse he has been nothing more than average for us for 2 season. Im not intending to say the guy is rubbish etc cos he isnt, he just hasnt offered us what he could and should have done for whatever reason. (and TL has played better this year!!)

R Horne - Huge disappointment, shame for him as im a fan.
Thorman - tripe, expected him to lead us around the field and bring a kicking game, done neither
Yeaman - poor 1st half of the season, better 2nd half but struggles with no service
Hally - disappointed more in Agar for not sticking with him that Hally himself
Berro - said enough
King - Over the hill, too many injuries taken their toll
Thacks - bad egg
Tickle - see above
Radford - disappointing to see him used at 13 rather than as a prop. Poor tactics by agar
Houghton - not kicked on as much as he should have done for me, more to come though.
Whiting - disappointed he hasnt nailed down 13, not his fault.
G Horne - great start to the season, poor since injury
Dowes - plodded for 2 or 3 seasons now, doesnt bring enough to us

| These are the ones i'd get rid off who are out of contract :
Tony (becoming more and more injury prone plus not needed anymore)
Byrne (already been released)
Thorman (offers absolutely nothing)
G. Horne (just not good enough)
Thackray (don't need him anymore plus not good enough)
Lee (done better this season but keeping him could stop houghton progressing)
Maloney (looks to be on the way out, got enough props plus he isn't big enough for Super League)
Cordoba (been decent since he came but no space on the quota)

| Agar promised a clear out after that shocking performance at KR in Set 08 and he got rid of ..................Wheeldon
Unless I have been on holiday , which I have twice , has Agar ever stated there would be a lot of players getting 'terminated contracts' ?

Did he put a time limit on that clearout? This may be the clearout he was referring to.

| Anybody listening to the radio would have 100% felt he meant last off season when he shipped out Wheeldon.
I haven't heard officially if there will be a clear out and the only time he said there would be - nothing happened

Totally agree with you there, especially regarding Lee. Imo Lee is still lucky to be here after last year, but credit to him he's stuck at it and performed reasonably well throughout the season. However I don't see any reason why we need to keep hold of him tbh, he was found out last season at 6/7 and I don't think he's shown enough promise at hooker to suggest that it could be a permanent position for him. I wouldnt have a problem keeping him if Berro was to remain at 7 next year, but with Long coming in, that looks unlikely. I expect Berro to resort back to 9 next year in which case we only require 1, out of Houghton and Lee and imo Houghton beats him hands down.

I agree with that, I've said earlier in this thread that I'd keep Lee as a squad player (certainly ahead of G Horne) but if it comes down to a straight choice between Lee and Houghton then it has to be Houghton.

I have made a few points on here about Berrigan and I do disagree with you. I was at the game and also viewed it on SKY and for me Berrigan wasnt your stand out player, in fact I once again thought he was pretty average.

Strange how we see the game differently isnt it....but thats what these forums are for and when you get a good thread like this not being ruined, then you can get a good debate going.
I thought he was very good but thats just my opinion and a few others judging by the M.O.M Thread........i wasnt impressed with Newton for you...every time i have seen him he has been poor but you will say different.....good isnt it.

At the game I thought you pretty much dominated us in the forwards for much of the game after the starting 10 mins. After watching it on the tele it looked a pretty even contest between the packs.
I thought Tansey/Hall or Moa should have been MOTM and Newton definitely was not at his best

| Interesting. The difficulty with all of this is that we don't really know - with some exceptions - whether a player is playing poorly because he's out of form , not fit ( sometimes ), not good enough, can't be @rsed or he's having to do someone elses work because they're not in form , fit , good enough etc. The balance of the team as a result of poor recruitment and retention and injuries has been wrong for a long time. No half backs, too many back rowers, at times no pace/size/aggression , too many young/old players etc. Putting right any one of those factors would possibly have had a positive effect on one or more players performances so there is in fact a liklihood that some of the players that we discard (if we do!) may suddenly look significantly better wherever they end up if they "fit in" to a balanced team. It will be very interesting to see in a year or so's time which of the players retained and discarded are going OK and which aren't. Getting discarded could in fact be the best thing that could happen to some of the players who currently wouldn't want to go. If it happens.
Having said all of that I still think a decent coach would have made a better fist of getting more out of the players we've got and molded some sort of team.

Agree with all of that, hence why this thread is all about opinions. I do think though that some players have simply come to the end of the line, and it would benefit them as much as it would benefit us for them to move on (G Horne for example).

And if the 9 out thats rumoured come from this lot and we bring some better players in then it defo looks better for next year. Especially if we manage to lose the 'drinkers' once and for all.

| When it comes to a clear out, i think its better to look at players i definatley dont want to leave. The only players i dont want to leave are
Calderwood
Yeaman
Briscoe
Hall
Berrigan
Manu
Washbrook
Houghton
Burnett
Moa
I dont include R Horne in this because i wonder how much he earns as a senior player and think, could that money buy better. I rate him but at what cost.
Am i fickle yes, but sport is not about sentiment.

No Raynor
Top player who if in the Leeds or Saints side would be sensational with his offloads.

| reason i dont include raynor, although i like him, i again wonder how much he does earn as at the time of signing he was a gb winger. Must be on a fair wack and would not be bothered hugely if Raynor was released to give Briscoe the wing slot full time.
Next season Hall and Briscoe should start every game. They are in my opinion, full of current ability and have the prospect to be world class.
However on the flip, with Long a half back who can pass and kick especially, Raynor could get bags next season.

| Must defenmd Richard Horne, FFS first poor season since broke into the team at 16.
Bearing in mind the impact of last years injury, distraction of his testimonial & the fact he is playing in a poop team with NO ball players & little go - forward up front it is hardly surprsing !!
I expect a top season next year, playing behind a dominant pack & outside Longy.
He remains the 'golden one' we should cherish ( accepting little gold on show this year ! ).
