McDonnell would be a good signing as from what I have seen of him he reads the game really well and knows how to pick the right pass when he is out the back in a 3 on 2.

The only negative is that it most likely means we are stuck with Horne in the side for another season.

So do I, McDonell will hardly command a massive salary. Not bothered about an NRL 6, just one with pace and good hands, god knows who though.

Fair play to him, came over to put himself in the shop window for a big club, and it's worked.

i like the bloke spoke to him a few times and its obvios(to me) that he backed himself by taking a low salary this year, knowing the abject lack of s.l talent, he would impress and 2or 3 clubs would bid his value up good luck to the bloke its a short career earn it while you can, maybe sandy can unearth another

This is a Hull FC fan who also probably doesn't know what contract Mcdonnell will be getting trying to make it seem like an even bigger blow to Rovers by insinuating that FC probably haven't offered that much more money than Rovers did to him.

IMO Rovers are losing a very good full back and Hull FC are gaining one but let's not pretend that as fans we have any idea of the amounts of money involved in the contracts. Its very likely that FC have offered more than Rovers but how much more, who knows?

For the first 2-3 months of the season I thought McDonnell was awful, but has looked better over the last month. Would have hoped for better and even been willing to wait until next year (especially if it does mean we don’t get another halfback), but there simply don’t seem to be any decent fullbacks available so he’ll still probably be one of the better fullbacks in SL next season.

Wonder what the chances of Horne being offered a coaching role are?

i have a feeling that Horney may call it a day at the end of the season, no substance in it just a feeling i have.

McDonnell has been a solid (and improving) performer for KR, as others have said not many FB's around unless prepared to offer top dollar. Gentle's thoughts have obviously changed with regards to Horne at FB possibly due to amount of injuries he picks up, I'm reasonably happy with this if confirmed.

Personally I think we are still in the market for a 6 and can see Horne just being a squad player next season filling in at 1, 6, 7 when required.

Sounds like wishful thinking, unless Hull can find some way to sweeten it outside the cap - lad has to think of his family and that.

McDonnell - decent, unfussy. Like him, sorry to see him go, difficult to judge the move without knowing it's value and even then it'd be hard to figure during what seems to be a major market adjustment.

Said the same last week on here , gentle said he'd be our full back next season so what's changed . A couple of forwards needed and a decent half and I think we'd look ok next season . I'd take holdsworth now if we have McDonnell , but wouldn't have if we'd got Kearney . All about getting the balance right .
