I agree that he's a good 'crash centre'. I also agree that we don't play to his strengths. That still leaves too many shortcomings IMO. Centres should be more than just short-range threats on the end of a crash ball - that's what second-row forwards are for.'"
Short range......seen Yeaman go in from distance a few times and he isnt as slow as some think.
I meant your views overall....i rember my thoughts on the play-off defeat and Saying long was in Dobsons back pocket and the reasoned debate of you was....whatever and a threat of a ban.

| Yeaman as a youngster was a very skilful strike player in the academy, he was given his debut under McRae and was too small and not strong enough at SL level, he bulked up a bit and came back strong enough, because of the players we had he played a bit of back row and bulked up further, a bit too much in my opinion, playing outside Cooke he ran good lines and with his strengh and fend scored a lot of tries and was very effective, without that quality service I don't think he offers too much else though, he is still a decent player but I don't think we will ever see him regain his form of 2006.

Doesn't back up. =#FF0000Don't think we've made enough breaks to judge this for the last 3 years. See 2005/06/07 for counter argument.
Rarely puts his winger away. =#FF0000Rarely gets an opportunity too, also think Briscoe's awareness with the touchline has a lot to do with this. Not fast enough. =#FF0000Wembley 08? Among others. Not tall enough. =#FF0000Is Gidley?Doesn't have good hands. =#FF0000Would probably agree
Rarely creates opportunities himself. =#FF0000He's not that "type" of centre, as you've said. Neither does Senior tbh.
Shoots out of the line for a big hit and misses a little too often for me. =#FF0000Way too much is made of this it doesn't happen as much as some like to think At least he's decisive with it and can really stop a move dead doing it. Better than being half and half and flapping like a windmill as Hall used to.
Can drift out of games. =#FF0000He carries the ball up once almost every set. It's our, seeming, unwillingness to get the ball out wide that creates this "illusion".
On the flip side...
Can run some good lines.
Difficult to put down.
Deadly on the end of a short pass near the try line.
Generally sound defence with the exception noted above.
=#0000FFI actually like Yeaman. He comes across as a good lad who is very dedicated to/passionate about the club, and has some good facets to his game if used correctly. I just don't think that he is, or will ever be, a top class centre.'" Yet you thought Craig Hall could be!

on my 'Edit ' comment, I was actually joking. Just to clear up! I am a big fan of Yeaman and still rate him very highly.

Not alert to opportunities. =#FF0000I don't understand this comment
Rarely puts his winger away. =#FF0000True to an extent but Briscoe needs to run better lines too instead of just staying wide
Not fast enough. =#FF0000Gone the full length a few times
Not tall enough. =#FF0000Lost me
Doesn't have good hands. =#FF0000He can pass and catch. not outstanding but certainly good
Rarely creates opportunities himself. =#FF0000He could do this more often I agree
Shoots out of the line for a big hit and misses a little too often for me. =#FF0000Hits far more than he missesCan drift out of games. =#FF0000So does every player in RL

I still think Hall has the skill set to be a top class centre. What's let him down is mental toughness. I guess we'll see if he ever overcomes that and realises his potential.
As to your other points, we'll have to agree to disagree. Yeaman may yet prove me wrong and become the centre we've been lacking since Barnett Snr retired. I personally doubt it but I guess stranger things have happened.

He's not sharp enough mentally for me. Part of the reason his backing up is poor is because he gets taken by surprise too often or is in the wrong place on the field to be able to back up a move.

But he is alert when he scores from kicks or makes the short run off Manu. I think the problem is people remember Barnett and there are not many centres if any in the whole of SL that could lace his boots.

That may be part of it, but IMO there have been and continue to be plenty of better centres in SL than Yeaman. Granted not many of them are English, as the recent display in the 4 Nations rather clearly demonstrated.

Which is why I still maintain Yeaman is still one of the top centres in this country, along with Senior, Gleeson, Atkins and Shenton, all much of a muchness.

I wouldn't get away with poor performance at work because there was a new arrival in my house.
He gets picked for England because we don't have much choice, he's fairly average (as many have stated)

There is a dearth of even decent English centres. An on-form Yeaman compares pretty favourably.

He does need to up his game and hopefully pressure from Berro, Whiting and Turner will help him. If he does then we will see the benefit.

attacking wise hall was better, but defensively turner is more solid, and scored tries when the opportunity arose.

Hall scored tries when opportunity arose and created his own as well......Depends what you want from your centre really.

Completley disagree.
I think Turner has the potential to be a great centre. The moment it clicked for me was when he scored a try this year at Leeds in April and I remember thinking what a great 'centres' try it was, ran a strong angle and with pace to finish.

A strong running defender.
In my opinion, Hall was neither of these.
Turner is a good defender and I believe his running will get better with time.
