I meant why would we keep phelps who would only be injury cover. Complete waste of a quota spot

You're trying to compare McKinnon to Hodgson? Hodgson has a terrific injury record, has been a prolific pointscorer for every club he's been at, and been selected to play State of Origin. The ONLY excuse for signing players of this age, is if they're proven quality AND have an impeccable injury record.

Would you say he wouldnt be a good addition to the squad? I dont know ive never seen him play just clips of him. Alot of people just see the age thing then slag the club off

| Quote ="FredParky"Not electric pace but his speed of thought makes up for it.
Good kicker and with full time coaching and practice will be an excellent kicker.
Very good near to the line on putting players through gaps and taking the chances himself.
Has come on leaps and bounds under 'Basil' Millward who likes a good organising Scrum half (Longy?).
Great team player but don't expect 75m breaks he's more of a creator for others.
Quite tall for a scrum half and has beefed up around the torso and shoulders since coming to Leigh which makes him strong in the tackle.
He left Saints under a cloud, but seems to have put that behind him and has been a model 'pro' this year turning up for 'out of hours' pro-mo's etc.'"
Cheers mate, he sound exactly what we need.

I can't see us keeping both, pointless having two fullbacks. We have additional cover for centre and wing so if McKinnon signs then there is no room for Phelps.
Imo McKinnon is a better player than Phelps no question, would be happy with a 2 year deal, 3 years would be too excessive.

| Alot of people seem to be saying they feel underwhelmed by the signing of Wade if it comes off, but wasn't alot of people saying thaty about Obst and Phelps.
I agree 3 years sounds excessive (if its true), however should we not give Agar the benefit of the doubt on this if he does sign him as he has already proven he can sign the right players that complement the squad which is what its all about rather than thier stature in the game.

| I think it's more the fact were giving a three year deal to a 30 year old player (31 in feb) who's had a knee reconstruction and has dodgy hamstrings.

| McKinnon is a good player and better than Phelps imo but I'm hoping if we have signed him we've only given him a 2yr contract not a 3yr. It is a worry that he's missed a lot of rugby through injury but lets hope that's behind him.

Iv got nothing against the guy as i dont know anything about him...its hard to get excited about a signing youve never heard of!! Plus the comments on here from people who do know about him are hardly exciting me either!

Must admit to being ambivalent about this TBH. Seems to be another high-risk signing given his age and injury record, particularly if it does turn out to be a 3-year deal.

| Ignoring his injuries in the past the thing that is concerning me with this signing is how will he fit into our structure as he has showed very little ball handling skills which is what our fullback needs due to the system we play.

Surely we cant be offering a 30/31 year old with a history of injury problems a 3 year contract!? ridiculous if it does happen.

He is a very good player though and is a better fullback than Phelps. He is a skillful player and I am sure he can adapt to the system we play. People thought Fitz and Ogre were too old and they have worked out well. It's a risk due to his past injuries but there is no doubting his quality.

He is better than Phelps with his all round game no question I just think Phelps is a better fit for our team, based on what I have seen off both players.

| There was a video of Wade circulating youtube a few years ago having a Micah Richards/ Balotelli moment swearing live on tele following a defeat, quite amusing, he is absoloutely distraught and told it how it was, was better than listening to a robot give an answer like you tend to see these days mind!
Think youtube has took it down now.

| Very difficult to call for me - a class act but on the old side and has had injury probs. True it has worked out well for Fitz but has not worked out so well with Long.
As for fitting in with the team I'm not sure there's an issue there, seems more tansey-esque in attack but with much better defence (and hopefully behaviour!).

Well said alot of people are just highlighting his age and have never seen him play before and yet are still slagging the club/player off.
Good player imo, for anyone who has got the nrl west tigers are on tomorrow morning, one of the first names on the team sheet behind benji and I trust tim sheens judgement.

He will be good in certain aspects. After talking to Wests fans all morning I have found out that he is very positionally astute, safe under uncontested high balls and pretty good last man defender. His pace never returned to him after his knee reconstruction though, and they feel that his hamstrings are really dodgy over there, and will suffer even more in our climate. So when he's on the field, he should be a solid, if unspectacular fullback. To be fair, we've not really had a safe fullback since Briscoe so I'm pleased in that respect, but I'd also like some attacking flair. I also believe he'll be missing plenty of games. When he's here I'll support him 100%, but feel we could have done better.

Agree with most of that mate, If I was choosing I would have gone for Bowen myself. But other than that the other full backs like hayne Boyd duggan slater gidley etc are not going to be coming over here any time soon and then there is campbell minichello wesser who are all older then mckinnon so for me we have got the best option realistically available, whether he's better than phelps will remain to be seen. But the reality is with the cap increase in Australia the majority of the exceptional players in the league are going to stay in the nrl.

From what I've seen of him this season , He links well into the line when attacking ,Has a good support ethic and has scored some very good tries from way out . My only concern is like most on here , 3 year deal 30 + player with injury history.

He aint a class act at all, good player yes but nowhere near a class act!
I actually think you would get better value out of Phelps.
