|
On the subject of articles/interviews this pre-season, I think that it's pretty obvious that the message FC are trying to project (and doing a good job of doing so IMO) is that of a fresh start. Forget last season (the last few seasons even), forget what you might have heard about what was going on behind the scenes because we're a new regime and we've made changes and will continue to make changes to try and be successful once more. This is being aimed at supporters to encourage pass sales and per match tickets but also a message to the wider game, particularly players and agents. They're marketing the club in the only way that they can until the season actually starts.
It's also got a completely different tone to previous years in that it comes across as grounded and realistic. Any talk of success and ambition is something that we are aiming to build towards rather than immediate promises. This isn't the bullish stuff of being up there competing for honours with a full cap and competitive squad that we've grown used to. It's different.[/quote:37ml3so9]
Completely agree with the above. As you say RR, the whole off-season media campaign has being about instilling some positive thinking into the fan base (fresh start, new broom, new objectives, etc.). It puts across the idea that everyone connected with the club is rolling their sleeves up and are tackling the numerous problems surrounding the club which need addressing if we are to make any progress. Communicating with the fan base is simply one aspect of the 'new-start' program we hope will bring results.
If Myler/Cartwright/Anybody else said nothing, we would all be up in arms asking (rightly) where is the interaction with supporters. At the other extreme, if Cartwright came out and said it's Old Trafford or bust in 2025 I reckon we would all be saying all he's done is set us up for an almighty fall!
But that clearly isn't the case. All JC has said, ever since he set foot in the place, is that he believes success will return to the club [i:37ml3so9][u:37ml3so9]in time[/u:37ml3so9][/i:37ml3so9], not necessarily immediately, but [u:37ml3so9][i:37ml3so9]in time[/i:37ml3so9][/u:37ml3so9].
He was asked a question in an interview and he answered it honestly and in a straightforward manner. What is he supposed to do exactly in that situation? sit there like a dumb waiter, staring into space, saying nothing!
He is the Hull Fc coach speaking, primarily, to Hull Fc fans as part of his duties as a Hull Fc coach, can't say I can see too much of a problem with this! nor, I suspect, will any other black & white.
Let's face it, he's hardly coming across like Jose Mourinho when he first arrived at Chelsea, is he, shouting the odds through a megaphone from the rooftops!! Seriously cannot see what the problem is here. Still, each to their own, eh!!
I found this an interesting read particularly about the ability now for other clubs to approach players contacted for this season after 1st December and the fact that some clubs will hear players are leaving and say "Just go then if you don't want to play for us" I expect that might eventually be the case for at least one young player at our club but only time will tell. There will be a lot of movement in the next couple of months across the game as things become more clear with clubs approaching players with less than a year left on their contracts and it will be interesting to see which clubs retain those players and which ones say well If you don't want to play for us then 'Bugger" off!

Out of all the young players who the December 1st tamper deadline would be applicable with there’s only really Barron not signed up yet who I’d lose sleep over, and I think the indication is that a new deal for him will happen sooner or later anyways. The others on the list have potential but agree if they don’t want to be here/commit maybe best to move them on early.

|
Moy will be FB and Rapana on the wing
until injuries hit , and they will.
But until then Moy FB and Rapana wing[/quote:33x8ayqh]
I'd be shocked if Rapana plays on the wing at the start of the season, particularly with the wingers we have

| Always thought they might fancy Rapana at centre, if they started the first game with a backline of Moy, Martin, Rapana, Hardaker and Barron that would certainly address any concerns about pace.
Depends on how much emphasis Cartwright has on making meters from kick returns and out of back field. I think it will be a big thing and possibly why Barron has the 2 shirt as he looked really strong out of dummy half. With that in mind still think he’ll want Rapana to start at 1 and Briscoe on the field maybe over Martin. Even with a decent rub of the green with injuries it’s unlikely we’ll often have the first choice 17 available so good to have options.
