| Jim Bowdon was an RL player for Huddersfield and also played international. He was aprop forward who ended his career early to concentrate on being a dentist. He had a practice at Ryhill and a short spell as chairman of our club in the late 60's early 70's.
Can't remeber what this trophy was for though.

Thanks for the info! The auction catalogue advises that it only seems to have been played for once, in 1971 when Salford won it! Where it's been since then, and how it got to auction is another question!

| I think I may know the background to this.
Once upon a time there used to be a couple of out of season sevens competitions - one at Headingley and the other at Central Park. Trinity won the Headingley version in 1971 and they played a challenge sevens match in July of that year against Salford who I think had won the Central Park one.
I'm not 100% certain but it may have been the same day as the American Football match that was played at Belle Vue that year.

If that date is true - about the American Football - then that is also the very date of my earliest memory of Belle Vue!
My dad used to have a named Vice-Presidents seat in the old wooden stand - and I can remember going there with him and, in particular, I remember thinking 'why do they keep changing teams?'

That would make a lot of sense....there was a sevens match between Salford and Trinity at either the 'Sporting Spectacular' or 'Feast of RL Football' event. Might be the latter one as I think that was organised by the Supporters Club (without wanting to open [ithat[/i can of worms again!)

That's what you got for winning the 7's competition at Headingley.
