Could anyone tell me why our local paper which you expect would be 100% behind the wildcats to gain a new stadium are constantly running the story of a small group not wishing that the stadium be built, yet I’m sure they would have been invited to attend the meeting last week to enable the passionate attendance which it has to be said dwarfed the Stanley rebellion by 1000% to put our point of view across.

I for one only purchase the express for the sports section more prominently what is being said about the wildcats so anyone who knows how to do a pole on this forum do me a favour and put one up asking how many people buy it to follow our beloved wildcats alternatively PM me and instruct me how to do it then maybe we could send it to them in an attempt to gain some support in our venture to keep professional sport in Wakefield.

If they can't have j32, why should we have j30? Apart from the fact we have funding and they never had anywhere near the cost to build a project such as this!

How is the desire / need of thousands balanced out by the coverage afforded them by the WE.

Maybe down to the ideology of the paper then. Don't really read it myself tends to be full of garbage apart from sports pages.

How much do we need them onside anyway? Can't imagine they have a massive readership.

The negative stuff could play into our hands, but it does seem to have a real 'we're gonna portray a balance even in the face of over-whelming odds' kind of attitute. Hence the question above to Sandal Wild Cat and hence us wondering if one or other of the reporters lives in the area affected!

They want to get everyones opinions/views across as it's going to be a community stadium. I can understand that and have no problems with it, it's just a shame the article was mainly about the people against it. Would have been great to have an article about what went on at the meeting Tuesday, but we can't have everything out own way!

I have to say, the name calling and disrespect shown to the people opposing the Stanley site doesn't really help our cause.
They have a perfect right to put their point, whether there is a few or many of them and the paper is correctly reporting it.
Whether there was a pit there or not, it hasn't been there for 40 years so I think they've probably got used to it not being there.

Just saying they don't matter and implying they are being obstructive makes us look like bullies and more likely to get them support from people who don't care but will support the under dog.

If our case is good, we should be gracious in victory, not just ridicule them for doing what we would all do if a big building was being built next to our house.

I really hope we get our stadium, but I don't wish any harm to the people near by. I hope they get a good deal for their trouble.

Totally agree but the problem as I see it is that they are not yet aware of the facts - none of us outsiders are as we have not seen the planning application yet - but already they are against it.

It is my opinion that the mini protest that has appeared in the last 2 weeks Wakefield Express has been orchestrated by the Wakefield Express themselves and not by the residents of Newmarket Lane which if I'm right is very disappointing.

When the planning application goes in they may be pleasantly surprised. If not its their democratic right to raise objections which will be fully considered during the period of determination of the application.

Well stated, balanced opinion...I couldn't agree more..... no matter where the stadium is to be built, there will always be someone who objects to it's proposed location, and they are entitled to have their say both in public (through the press), and in private.

Haven't bought the paper for years. Sometimes read the sports pages in the shop, then put the paper back on the rack though.

only buy the rag during footy season because my son plays football in the catchment area..must say that the junior reports are crap compared to the morley area where he plays rugby..

I doubt the Wakey Express would orchestrate a protest, but I'm sure they'd be more than willing to provide an outlet for such protest to be voiced, if it meant selling more copy.

That's all perfectly legitimate. The residents of Newmarket Lane have a right to express their fears too, even if they'd be better served by waiting for the details to become public before expressing their objections.

If it is correct that the Wakefield Express sent a reporter to some meeting against the project held in somebodys front living room but didn't send anyone to a planned meeting by SWAG held in conjunction with the club how is that balanced. Plus every time there's an article about the stadium are they going to show the same picture of a few protesters with a couple of dogs sounds like lazy journalism to me. Is it true that the Wakefield Express isn't even based in Wakefield anymore?
I believe theres a facility on the Wakefield Express web site where you can ask the editor questions I think he needs to be asked a few.

no because there aren't any. live in leeds council area and the facilities are good. wakefield doesn't have a swimming pool or plans for anything..councillors are the usual old school "labour" with no ambition or plans.. just feathering their own nests !

The club need to go well in the playoffs and release some good news stories. Wakey can do it despite the WE.
