Mr Richard Mathers, now since my last post, Vice Captain of our beloved Club? Yes he can talk a good game, one of the best in Super League. I understand he is on 65 Grand a season for the next two, not bad money for someone who never has been.

I'll get in touch with RA and suggest Mathers' contract be terminated. Seeing as we haven't yet started this season it seems a good time to judge players' performances and to get rid, regardless of what benefit they may be in the coming season. I don't like the look of Tim Smith or Danny Kirmond, I hear they're on a few quid and both missed tackles last season, I'll suggest they go as well!

While you're at it, you should let Andrew Glover know that there are at least half a dozen people on this board who could do a much better job than Richard Agar, who clearly knows nothing about the game and picks players based on whim, personal vendettas and by sticking a pin in the squad list.

Mathers 8 tries 9 try assists 68 tackles 37 missed tackles 2589 metres
Hodgson 6 tries 14 try assists 78 tackles 27 missed tackles 1420 metres

Hodgson is rated as no 2 full back in the comp and our man is not far away, and in some areas is somewhat better and where did you get the 10 appearances from, he'd passed that figure half way through the season.

His kick returns are better than all but probably Tompkins. His metres stats show how useful he is there.

Yes I belive a full back should be able to take the high ball and lay the body on the line but look around people.Mathers on the whole did a decent job for us last year and think he will this.

This Minister of Propaganda act you do for the club whenever the slightest hint of criticism is getting a bit tiresome - though in fairness it's not just you.

No one needs to scapegoat Mathers he does that all by himself.

If Agar rates Mathers as his best option so be it - he certainly knows way more than I do.

However only God we are led to believe is infallible so maybe you need to calm down a bit regarding AG and RA.

Peoples concerns regarding Mathers are fair and bourn from experience - he has split fan opinion wherever he has played and always will - BECAUSE - he simply isn't as good as some make out or as bad as others. He is the definition of average for me.

My opinion on Mathers is thus - he will do for us - however if money were no object and I (personally) were building a team to win a SL he'd be the first player I'd look to replace - or to put it another way he is not a Wakefield player I would build a team capable of challenging for a SL tittle around.

However we won't be challenging so for now I will support the lad on the pitch 100% as I'm sure he will give it his best shot - but that won't stop me spotting his failings, why the hell should it.

I hope that's OK with you and the rest and that despite having certain reservations I'm still a real fan.

vastman can i say you put your posts in such an unbiast way but get your points across perfectly. i try to get the same poiunt across and look completly anti mathers.What i have tried to say all along is that no other club wanted him but we found tit right to give him a 2 yr contract and from what i heard one massive contract. Im not argueing that theres anyone at the club better what i am saying is the club allowed a position to arise where there is no oppossiton to his place in the side as ive said before im quite prepared to wait and see how he peforms this season but some on here are not prepared to give any critisicum at all cant educate pork is a saying that comes to mind

You bang on about how crap Mathers is, where as Vastman to his credit can rationalise that despite his failings he also has some attributes, and more than that he is as good as we have had and as good as we are likely to get until things improve.

can i just say ive never sucked up to anyone him my life and i resent anyone accusing me of it ,i felt vastmans post was unbiast and mine i agree was pretty scathing. Icant understand why people dont comment on my point that mathers was given a 2 yrs contract when no other club was intrested all i hear is theres no body else, we cant afford anyone better . im prepared to wait and see this season, but weve had one game against a reserve set of threequarters and mr mathers although not alone was found wanting i now await the windup merchants to come on and tell me im talking rubbish
