| Quote ="vastman"Don't agree with that, Woody is a halfback and has done ok in at least one full game. Smith isn't a halfback and after his disaster at F/B has not IMHO earned a crack at S/O - had he I'd have given him a go but now it seems like rewarding failure.'"
Although not alone Wood was ineffective against Hull at the weekend so becomes a victim of circumstance i'm afraid, Smith needs to be in the team for his goalkicking. The other option is to put him at centre but i feel the time has come to give Cowling a go, so for me Wood drops to the bench to give a fresh pair of legs at dummy half, Aiton can always switch to the backrow if we want to keep him on the field for his defence.

Good point about the goal kicking - oh well.

| Quote ="TALLYWACKER"Reece lynn if he's not playin at hull and you offer him a chance he grabs it so why give him 3yrs? madness! As for agars youth policy all he's done is decimate the confidence of a team that spanked wigan. If our juniors need 15/20 superleague games under their belt to be assesed for their suitability[which they won't get They better sign for wigan cos it dosen't seem to bother mr wane.Anybody remember a meeting at belle vue with elston and ag denying agar was the coach as still contracted to hulll. In that meeting elston said the new coach must be able to develop the youth policy "In the past wakefield have let too many young players leave thats gone on to great things like ben westwood" .So if theirs any truth in the new romour whats are policy now? westwood in and one of are best prospects who's just managed to force his way in out. How hypocritical ther lucky to have any young players.'"
So are you prepared to watch Wakefield get spanked every week while we play kids for 15 to 20 games?
Wigan have a different setup and have better players to support the kids when they come in. Our team may well have beaten them at youth level but that doesn't mean they are man for man better (though some are) and they have a constant conveyor belt of talent. There were kids already playing first team at Wigan rather than playing against U19s as they were significantly better.
It's not the same.
I'm pleased our kids are starting to get games.
Agar decided that he'd rather they get games in the lower league than sit with no game time as they wouldn't be regular players.
As far as I can see it, we are working with a first team squad of about 19. The rest are getting game time elsewhere.
1-16 squad numbers. Mariano was 17.
Wildie, Lyne, Annakin and Molloy are not playing elsewhere and are in that squad.
Cowling, Walshaw, Goulding and Trout are all getting game time at other clubs rather than just having the occassional game.
Can't see what is wrong with that. I assume Agar has plans for those playing "elsewhere" otherwise he would have got rid.

I don't think anyone is advocating sticking them all in at once and running the risk of significantly weakening the team but some of these players are as good as if not better than the ones currently in that 19 man squad.
How long will they be happy to be farmed out elsewhere to get gametime if they know they are not going to be given an opportunity when it arises??
Danny Cowling for me is as good as Reece Lyne, he is "homegrown" and when called upon has performed really well. Lyne has had his chance and at the minute looks to be suffering some sort of loss of confidence. Perhaps he is the one who needs to go out on dual-reg for a few weeks to regain that and we swap him with Cowling?
We need to give Danny a chance or we will lose him like we have other juniors. We then run the risk of not having the required number of home-grown players in our squad, and certainly not the ones of any decent standard.

| If Cowling isn't in the side instead of Reece Lynn then its a total joke. MR Agar and his favourite boys it wouldn't suprise me if this wasn't so.

I know I'm going to regret this but in an attempt to be reasonable with you...
I happen to know that RA is a Cowling fan and wanted to sign him as a junior at Hull. When he arrived at BV he looked at Cowling and said quite rightly he hadn't been developed physically by the old staff in a way he should have been. So RA got to work and through the close season and last year the lad was built up.
So all this said it is strange that he won't play a player he rates, has built up, has shown the right attitude etc etc for a player who hasn't.
I kind of understand why he sticks with certain players over others out of I suspect trust rather than favouritism. However in this case I really don't get why Mellors or Lyne are ahead of him. One hasn't the belief and the other is collecting a pension.
So I amazingly agree with you other than the favouritism bit which I think a fairly cheap and low accusation.

Exactly how I see it with Cowling and agree with the last sentence.

There is more to the game than that as I'm sure you'll agree and our qualified coaches probably didn't see immediate SL potential so had to let him go.

| Didn’t take much notice of Tom until he left the Bradford academy and came to us , the issue people I spoke to (supporters) focussed on how tall he is , if that was a reason for not (was told by a friend of his at a Dewsbury game, Wakefield had retained his registration) retaining him, then such as Chris Anakin as blown that out of the water. I am sure that the way our props play ( run in straight lines) Tom would have been a crowd pleaser by now

| With Mariano going and now Mellars gone on loan (we have seen the light on that one), what has happened to Jon Molloy?
We signed him 4 months ago, and TBH has hardly featured. I didn't rate him that much. Is it one more player on the salary cap we are paying for. If we end up getting shut, we will just have more payments to make, like with IJ recently. I did not see the point in signing this player at all.
Also I don't know if this is just a rumour, but I heard the other day that JE/ AG have pressured Agar in the past to pick certain players because of the size of their contract regardless if they are any good or not. If this is the case, then how can Agar, pick what he thinks is the best 17 available to him if these two interfere on selection.
I agree that they want their marquee players to play, but not if those aren't pulling their weight, and there is maybe a fringe player busting a gut to get in, no wonder we do lose some good home based players

| By my reckoning there's only Wilkes, Fox and Lauitiiti of the pre Agar signings who are regulars. All the others have been shipped out, either permanently or on loan.

There are so many ways to rubbish that statement, but just for starters, what difference would it make to the BoD if a more highly paid player is selected over a lower paid one?
There are rumours, then there's just ballcocks - this, I would suggest, falls firmly into the latter category.

RA picks him just about every game though, so I don't really understand if he is to depart. I like Ollie, I think he is 100% Wakefield and works hard for us. Oh I know he has his moments but he is a solid hardworking prop the likes of which all teams need. I will be sorry if he goes.
