yes do know him personally and he has not spoken to anyone at wakefield yet.
BUT......apparently Pitts WAS at Kirkstall yesterday having a medical !! and that is a FACT.
Must adnmit I did not believe the rumour at first but it looks like the Pitts side of it IS happening, and the Broughton part of the deal has yet to be discussed.

Jay Pitts has not done enough for me to get too misty eyed. I accept the potential argument, I also accept he probably hasn't had chance to play his natural game. However Leeds are clearly offering what we can't and that is that.

Seems a bit strange that a club like Leeds feels the need to sign and pay for a relative unknown like Pitts. Makes you wonder if Leeds much vaunted youth system has not been quite as succesfull of late in producing those up and coming players and they have now reverted to the Leeds of old.


This I feel is good news for us as I can't recall the last player other than Ellis we sold to Leeds who really made it or didn't come back to us in the end.

Players we got (got back) from Leeds who were great for us, Conway, Mason, Spencer and Field to name a few.

I agree it is a little strange as Leeds do have some good back rowers in the reserves and academy, but I have seen Pitts a few times and he is probably better than the fringe / reserve players Leeds have in that position, as well as having had first team experience too. Without being disrespectful to wakefield, I am sure any 17/18 year old kid who gets the opportunity to go to Leeds would take it if he was earning the same money and having same opportunity to play first team rugby. Whether he does get more game time at Leeds than he has or would get at Wakefield remains to be seen.

A reasonable assumption, although in this particular case I feel Pitts will not yet get the opportunities at Leeds that he would get at Wakefield. Of course there are a variety of reasons for him choosing Leeds and him feeling that his natural ball handling game will develop better at Leeds may feature highly amongst the others.

What would it matter? Leeds want him, either way he will not lose face.

I can obviously see why Leeds want him and paying £20k now is better than maybe 100k (or 3 friendlies!) in 2/3 years.

I really cant understand him wanting to go at this time in his career though. Having seen him a few times now, the potential is definately there but his defense is simply not good enough to be pushing for a place in the Leeds side in the next 18 months.

He would be far better off staying here and playing 15 games or so next season rather than going there and ending up on loan at Halifax (no disrespect) this time next year.

Is it about the cash?? Is he really, at 18 years old (??) concerned that his game is been stifled??? Most lads that age would just be happy to be involved and learning of the senior pros and coaches. Does he believe his natural off loading game would be good enough at the top level at this stage in his career?

The Leeds of old would have gone out and bought a current international or at least a star, would they not? Therefore that argument does not fit.

That is utter arrogance in my book.

Wakey play in SL - as do Leeds.
Wakey provide a route to the first team - as do Leeds.
Wakey pay in Pounds Sterling - as do Leeds.

In fact there are some very valid reasons why a young player would be better off at Wakey than at Leeds. If we accept that this is our position so easily, then what chance do we have in promoting the career opportunities to 16 and 18 year olds - which is exactly what we are trying to do right now.

I genuinely believe that Jay is making the wrong move, but he's free to do so - just as I am free to believe that not everything Leeds is shiny!

You are wrong, as far as I'm aware we have matched Leeds though I don't know figures. It's sad but it's the reality of RL.

Leeds are taking a punt because they have failed to produce a Pitts type player. Why so defensive I'm simply looking at it from a positive.
