He's only five, so he wouldn't stand still long enough, I've got him showing an interest on TV, and he wants to play for the "Wildcats" when he grows up, or be in STAR WARS!!!!

I'm with you on that Kinleycat. I have 5 year old with exactly the same ideas. I keep getting pushed to bring him down but its better when he is able to watch and enjoy it rather than be shouted at for messing about.
He'll probably see his first this year though as a one off.

I wonder if the roof is going to overhang the front of the section or whether its end there. There seems to be scope to cantilever the roof a little to cover the front of the terrace.

That is a significant structure!

I don't care what anyone says, the new stands will add a massive amount to the look, feel and atmosphere at BV.

It's a shame we couldn't have done something simular 10 years ago, it's a shame that SKY kaiboshed the West stand running the length of the touchline.

Massive credit to Andrew Glover and James Elston for having the courage of their conviction and seeing this through!

75m in total, and yes it certainly rounds of the ground to make it look much more like a 'stadium' rather than a playing field with some bits of dishevelled concrete terracing surrounding it. If only the sky camera was on the East Stand rather than the on top of the touchline bar.

Just need now to make it a stand where the Wakefield Fans stand and create some atmosphere, like the South Stand at Headingley. Should have a good opportunity on Sunday with no away fans.

It looks like it ends there from these photos. It doesn't look like there are holes for a moment connection to support a cantilever to the front and also, the columns don't big enough to take a moment from a cantilever member anyway.

That all said, if it was going to have a cantilever to the front they would have probably designed the whole thing differently and avoided the need for a large moment connection on the front column (it would need to take a wind moment but not a moment from the rafter, as it is now) by running the rafter continuously over the top of the front column. The rafter would need to quite a bit larger to do this and it would have pushed the cost up a reasonable amount.

I actually like it as it is to be honest! One of the things Belle Vue has going for it for Summer Rugby is that it is great when the sun is shining, so you sort of get the best of both and if it does start to rain, you would be amazed how many people would squeeze under the roof!

Yep, can see it now you mention it. The supporting columns do look a little slender to counter the weight of what is a substantial roof.

By the way, i'm not complaining, I think both stands look great and I think home and away supporters will appreciate the cover, and not just for the protection from the elements.

i think it's outragous. some of the weeds on the north bank have been there for decades, and will die once their light and water source is blocked off. glover is damaging a vital eco system and is an environmental vandal.

it looks a bit low to me. If people stand at the back it appears from the picture angle that they will not see much at all? Certainly you wont have a clue where any kicks are when they are put up. Massive improvement though and shows that AG is a man the RFL can trust when he makes promises.

It's like many stands, you lose the ball when its up in the air. I remember when I was down in Kent with the Company I worked for we sponsored the Gillingham v Hereford game in the old 3rd or 4th Division. We had seats in the main stand and only saw about 10% of the game as both teams played a "kick and chase" game and the ball was above the end of the stand for most of the game.

And equally why you get so wet in many new covered stadia, so you get a better view.

Just been up there and I have to say it looks massive and very impressive when you get next to it.
