| I would love to see him put into a gap with 80 yards to go and pin his ears back I doubt he would have what all good wingers need PACE I would not mind betting Brough is faster

I suppose to most people it can be described as a lump of rusting iron plonked in the middle of a roundabout.

Daft comment from Clarke. Just because he was a NRL player does not render him immune from injury. He has been a disappointment generally, but playing wise nobody knows what he could achieve due to his lack of exposure to a settled & sustained period of game time.
Maybe I'm looking too much into it but I’m sure the hand gesture he made after scoring formed a 'W'. If this was made in reference to the club then he may be committed to proving his worth and that can only be a good thing. I don’t think it was a Wacaday Wave.
In hindsight of course it would be preferable to not coughed up a large proportion of a limited budget on an injury prone luxury but that’s the cards the club have been dealt.

That was a 'W' and is the symbol used with the kids in the camps and classroom work. I thought it was a very positive sign that he is committed and, whilst agreeing that his time has been disappointing, I don't think it is a case of him actively coming here thinking 'ooh, how much can I take these guys for'.
The club signed him for the right reasons and I thought we would have a really strong player. So did Huddersfield when they signed the Rocket etc...
I really hope Bob comes on to prove his worth!

| He hardly ever gets the ball, he's always got his hands in the air calling for it. It seems like JK has brought him over to scoot from dummy half in our own 20.
Same could be said for Atkins, he doesn't get enough of the ball either.

| There is a rediculous mythology appearing around PetersEn. Not least of which is his name.
He is obviously not slow. He wouldn't have played for so long in Oz if he was a cart horse.
He isn't injury prone. His injuries have been reasonably big. It's not like he is breaking down every game. He does however seem to play while injured and have not helped his rehab.
He obviously wants to play. These days he could just break his contract and go home if he wanted, and he gets some right batterings taking the ball in. You don't do that when you are not interested
The players obviously like him. When he scored his try off the long Brough pass the players all rushed in to congratulate him and in my opinion, made more of a fuss over him than others.....can't see Brough being so over the top unless they were all pleased for a guy who's been doing it tough. He's not that kind of guy.
On top of that, the W sign has been done before at Trin. I can remember Garen Casey doing and getting the team into it when on tv. It's often used as a US thing as the opposite of the loser sign on your head.
Despite him not having the greatest start to Trin career, I'll be more than happy with him playing every game from now on.

Sampson would have proved to be international level if we'd ever given him the ball.......now he DID have pace.
Broughy would have been kicking long kick/chase balls for him all day if he was playing now.

| All his body language and that of the players around him is that he is a good lad.
Re injuries, these things happen to everyone in RL end of story and everyone who's played knows that one injury often leads to two (as you lose match condition). Your form can quickly drop and no one will more upset than him as i presume he is after another contract somewhere - if your not on the pitch your value quickly drops.
he has been indiffferent so far - fingers crossed now he is fit he can crack on and show us that he is still a good player - i thought he went ok against Hull generally and looked more involved in the game.

| I haven't seen enough of him to form a negative view, and the semi-final aside, I haven't seen much evidence that he is a bad winger. Wingers rely on service, and often on building a partnership with their centre. A winger is only as good as their centre. Look at Ade Gardner!
Given that there is no-one to take over his position, I would rather assess him over near enough a full season and I have no problem with him.

This is a good point. Something that Kear said on Friday night in the Hull KR/Quins commentary says a lot. He was talking about how the absence of Briscoe and Fox would effect Hull KR. He stated that the primary purpose of a winger (and full back) we to to make good first tackle meters, either from dummy half or kick returns.
While this is obviously a role of a winger but surely not the the primary role. I would of thought the first role of winger with ball in hand would be to feed off the service from the rest of his team. Exploiting his pace to make breaks or score tries. Without been too critical of Kear I would says this make his view of the game a little on the negative side. Which seems to be reflected in the amount of service Matt gets going forward.

Well although I agree that the primary role should be to score tries using pace etc the modern game isn't like that any more. A winger that can make 20-30 metres return on every kick is more influencial than the one who scores the tries. There are so many kicks there is more value in the kick return than there used to be. When you get a player like Vainikolo who can return with big yards and also score at the other end then you have the perfect combination. Blanche is like that for us. We lost a lot of team momentum when he was injured.

| Quote ="The Clan"There's no doubting that Matt Petersen has the ability to be an asset to the club and the team. He has a very good reputation in the NRL and that doesn't happen by chance.
However, and I've said this before about other players, sometimes a transfer just doesn't work out and it's not because the player isn't good or that the club hasn't looked after him. It's not because the player isn't committed to the cause, it's not because of some kind of backroom unrest or any other kind of disruptive influence. The injuries obviously haven't helped him settle into the team and as a result he is now really struggling to establish himself in the eyes of the fans and quite possibly in the hearts and minds of his teammates and coaches.
In my opinion such a situation can only exist to so long before it becomes irretrievable and the best thing for both parties is to go their separate ways in an amicable fashion. Maybe Wakefield Trinity and Matt Petersen have reached this stage or maybe not, I would suggest that we have until the end of this season to find out even though Peterson has a further year on his contract. I would hope that we can get behind Matt Petersen until the end of the year as that would benefit everybody.'"
