| So near again.
Unfortunately, too many silly errors, and yet again switching off at vital times.
When will they learn from previous mistakes.
Last week the scapegoat for some was Grix, maybe this week Finny.
The drop goal miss was pressure, but about 4 missed tackles, one of which led to a try at a vital time.
There is talking of new signings, it is silly season with rumours, I just hope one is of a scrum half

| Not that I'm bitter. It was a great game and I'm proud of the boys. But I'm bemused by the decision given in the build up to Ellis' try.
Kirmond was remonstrating with the ref too.
The players who prevent Ben Jones Bishop from diving on the ball (which he could have simply done if not for the there presence) are offside when it's kicked.
As soon as Ben Jones Bishop touches that ball (trying to trap it with his foot which is surely legitimate) they should not interfere with play. If he caught the ball cleanly, they couldn't tackle him. So how if he touches it with his feet are they allowed to get involved?
I'm happy for someone to come up something to explain, but I thought it was the wrong decision and Wakefield should have been given a penalty.
As I say not bitter but could have been a different game.

But if travelled ten yards after BJB played at it, don't they become onside?
The real error is that it wasn't a knock on and Hull in fact did knock it on.

| Should have actually been head and feed to Wakefield in the resulting scrum as BJB didn't knock on while trying to regather it.

| Not forgetting the out and out knock on by Kelly when they got the ball back before their first try.
Great effort and commitment tonight, totally gutted.

| Touch judge calling a late tackle when clearly wasn't. I can't understand why he didn't use the video ref as foul play can be looked at and would have cleared Arona

| The boys once again played their hearts out but boy do I get sick of being able to predict what is going to happen.
Taking 2 10 metres out when Hull are on the run and down to 12? That is the symptom of the mentality the last 2 games. Just lack that ruthless edge at key moments. Hull didn't even have to play well for more than half a game, let's be fair. Second half we were never in it and they were nowhere near 100% first half. Soon as they upped the intensity we couldn't get out of our half.
Badly trying not to be negative but so disappointed that we lose in that manner two weeks running. (Short term context). We've still had a good season but ultimately we don't have a chance of winning anything aside from a miracle.

Regardless, BJB didnt knock on and then Taylor does so it's Wakefield's feed. Ref was garbage. The late tackle call was crap as well and Fifita was blatantly dragged in touch which isn't allowed. Also, apparently Hull FC were perfect in the ruck all game as I don't think Bentham penalised them for any interference as far as I'm aware.

Have just been told by someone else that BJB didn't knock on aswell. So does make my point irrelevant to an extent.
It's hard not to look back at the questionable decisions during a game and not think what if. However, what's done is done. Still proud as they come of the lads.

If it didn't, you'd need a slide rule to work it out.
The ref made an instant call and got it wrong. As did BJB in not trapping it properly. As did someone else later on in defence. And so it goes.

| I thought the no advantage to Wakey was a crucial call , it was when the Hull forward lost the ball & MCB picked it up, he was away until the ref pulled him back and gave the scrum to us. He could have let play carry on and if necessary gone to the screen afterwards, instead of stopping play straight away.

| well played wakey, close game, you won the penalty count by the way, and as for the incident with jjb yes taylor lost the ball but it was stripped in the tackle with 2 men in the tackle so you could say its a penalty to hull, all in all a draw was properly a fair result, hope you beat wigan, again well played

| Missed tackle by Finn led to a Hull try, missed conversion cost 2 points, missed drop goal cost a draw. If that had been Grix his head would be on a spike now! We matched Hull in every department, and are so close to being an exceptional team. Best season I've ever seen from Trinity, and I am immensely proud of every one of our players.

| A point I made earlier and also on another thread Wakeyrule.
It could be actions of a tired player.
With us having Williams and Miller also, didnt think we'd be sat here in the knowledge that Finn would play all bar one game of the season.
Really do hope if Williams has gone home, that another half is brought in, to keep things fresh, provide cover and competition.
Next year, he will be older, slower, and would he get through as many games as he has this year.

| Unfortunately the Williams thing didn't work out and our best half backs took the field. Finns had a good season and competes to a set level every game , hes solid.
Other halves have a good week bad week but can win a game with a single play. Good scrum halves are a bit of a rarity and I'm not sure we would find one that fits the bill and would be affordable.

The ref explained that the tackle was complete before he lost the ball so he couldn't play on.

To me he lost the ball in the tackle so should have allowed play on. A judgement call obviously but just strange the way judgement calls often seem to go against us. Or am I being paranoid?

I'm with you on this. The ball pops out on impact with the ground, you see them every week and not given as tackle complete so why this one??

That's been the rule for ever and a day. If the player touches the ball with his feet, it's playon, and everyone is onside. It's the same once he's passed the ball.
Offside players who encroach within 10 meters at the point he first touches the ball are offside, but this is rarely given nowadays, only if they get involved with tackling/competing for the ball.
Quote Placed onside:
An off side player is placed onside if:
(a) an opponent moves ten metres or more with the ball.
(b) an opponent touches the ball without retaining it.
(c) one of his own team in possession of the ball runs in front of him.
(d) one of his own team kicks or knocks the ball forward and takes up a position in front of him in the field of play.
(e) he retires behind the point where the ball was last touched by one of his own team.'"

I think that's a really fair call and would help the players on the pitch and make it better for the fans
All you have to do is look at the NRL
Personally while I'm gutted we lost I think we've gone through a big learning curve over the last few weeks, the bad calls for both sides tend to even them selfs out and you have to be able to win the big matches regardless, sts found away to win last week and hull did last night
For me one of the big things about this season super 8s is we have won some of those games and hopefully we can make the 8s again next year and draw on that big game experience to win more
I genuinely believe that is a process we have had to go through
Rome wasn't built in a day

This.
That was a huge mistake and he made a few other wrong calls. Does his refereeing get formerly assessed by the RFL? If it does he will be getting quite a bit of feedback.
Trinity needed the luck or rub of the green and had 3 or 4 scoring chances but could just not finish them off. Had Fifita gone to dive early then there is no way they could have stopped him scoring with his weight and size.
That said Fifita had a great game..

I'm a Grix fan but that imho isn't a great analogy. All Finns errors were as you describe but the conversion was a hard one - missed tackles happen - drop goal under pressure missed by inches not that bad. I we crucified every player who did the above we'd not be cheering anyone.
Grix on the other hand was a howler that was harder to get wrong than right. That's why Grix himself was so gutted where is Finn was just dissapointed.
