He played the odds and went for the safer bet and came up short. I've no criticism of that. If he'd played for a try and we hadn't scored, people would have queried the decision not to go for the one point because it would have put us in with a greater chance of making the top four. He can't win either way.

Half time told in both games. We came back out with stick it up your jumpers, play safe. Sts & Hull both regrouped came back faster cut out their errors, exploited ours.

Just come on to this site & amazed we havent had somebody on saying that Finny should be burned at the stake, after last weeks comments from the keyboard warriors. We competed brilliantly for the full 80 minutes tonight and even though we came out on top in the penalty count 5 to 4 . I did think that the 50/50 calls favoured Hull, and when Shaul got 10 mins I did think that Watts could have been shown yellow for deliberate contact with one of our players ( Arona ?)

Phenomenal effort from the boys tonight from 1 to 17 (especially Grix, who was outstanding).

To get back to within a point with all that had gone against us (every 50/50 call went to FC) was magnificent.

absolutely gutted two weeks on the bounce. Better team in both games yet come away with nothing each time. There's nothing quite like a game of rugby league just a shame we were on the wrong end of the result. Massive achievement and still not over although out of our hands. Still got a feeling deep down it will go down to the last game and we will beat them at home. Going to bed gutted but still not over.

Not the wrong brand of rugby, just a team with no real experience of knock-out rugby trying to learn how to play knock-out rugby. This season is (and probably always has been) a season to early for a proper push into the finals. However, this experience of being involved in tight low scoring games will help the team develop for next year, they will get there, just not yet it seems

You've got to hand it to the guys, they don't leave anything out there and you have to be proud of their efforts. What they lack is a little knowhow and the ability on how to win these big games at this stage, we keep coming up just short. We just need that little extra composure at crucial times and who knows what could happen moving forward.

Every man from one to seventeen left it all out on that pitch tonight. We've come a long way this year, many thought we would be relegation fodder but to be around the top four or five is an outstanding achievement given our starting point at the end of 2015.

Maybe..maybe we did go a bit conservative against St Helens but during the sin bin spell...a harsh and unfair one I would say, we did the right thing in kicking to touch to wind the clock down. Maybe we carried that on too long but how often have we criticised the team for reckless play? This week..nothing at all conservative. Were you at the game?? It was as near to a faultless performance as you can get. What do you expect? 80 minutes with no errors and perfect plays every play? If Bentham had have been as good as us we would have won. Honestly..criticism is completely unwarranted.

And we have a sporting authority itching for us to fail and cover their embarrassment with a fig leaf by disappearing so they can install Totonto et al, and we come up with a season like this and yet some still criticise...

I made a commentbregarding Finny, but the point I made was from observations that I made during the whole game, where he missed quite a few tackles, of which obe was costly to us, and not a split second decision to go for the one and miss.

I did notice this toward the latter part of the weekly rounds that he was missing tackles.

I said it then, and will now, looked like the actions of a tired player

The result was nothing to do with Bentham, if Hull had had the ball and position we had in the first 25 mins, the game would have been over,we just didn't convert pressure into points.

I get what you're saying to a point, but over the 2 games it would be very harsh to be too critical, I think we deserved to win 1 of them, although errors at crucial points in both games obviously cost us dearly. I thought 2nd half against Saints we were negative, I didn't see Miller last night doing those negative short kicks into touch, the kicking game long and short last night was brilliant, and we tried to move the ball wide as best we could, against another good defensive team. Against the likes of Widnes, and Salford latterly it's easier to score tries because man on man they simply miss more tackles, as did Leeds at home when we spanked them. I don't think we have had much luck against Hull this season, even going right back to the first game a couple of crucial calls went their way, as happened last night. We have the makings of a very good team, no doubt about it, but for me scrum half and full back are gonna be the keys to our success. Maybe Finn & Grix can have one more good season next year, but after that or even next year, we need quality in those positions to hopefully progress even more. I've really enjoyed watching us this season, apart from Cas I reckon we are as entertaining as anyone else, certainly more so than Hull, who can be quite dour at times, but more often than not they get the job done, so i'm sure the supporters aren't bothered how they play.

I'm very happy with the team and have no complaints. It has been a truly fabulous season. The last 2 games (and Cas at home, Warrington away) have been lost by fine margins. That is how close we are.

Bentham did well last night in my opinion. I would challenge a couple of his knock on decisions but apart from that I don't think he showed any favouritism in the 50/50 calls. We can't blame the ref. For me game management and effort was excellent. I think people need to accept that you can't win them all and I am not being defeatist in saying that. It is just sport. Enjoy and move on.

I felt we were too negative against Saints but almost played the perfect game against Hull notwithstanding individual errors. The only decision I thought was wrong was the drop goal attempt. I felt we had one last shot at scoring a try and had Hull on the ropes. Decision to take two before HT was correct.

OPs got a point. We've gone for the two at the wrong moments then trying to "park the bus". Last night Finn took the two when we were 15m out with a man advantage, took the two last week with twenty mins to spare to defend a four point lead. It's not the effort the OP is criticising it's the decision making?

Agreed I was hoping wood would dummy the pass and try and burrow over as would still have been time for the drop goal on the next tackle if he failed.

Also thought Finn should have been stood much further back to give ample time to ensure he could kick it before Hull players but pressure on him
