| A team that suffers massive distuption to their season and suffers a six match losing streak. Then makes a convincing return to winning ways against a side with renewed confidence. Followed by matching try for try THE form side of the competition on their home ground.
...... and you have someone calling for the coach's head ?????
You should be giving him a medal. From wondering if we could stay above bottom place to realistic contenders for play-offs (again) and all with no money. What do you want from a coach??

| Quote ="snowie"in a game hindered by rain the first fifteen they had to have their pampers changed, we was in control but they changed their play to throwing it panic style to get back on on top, which they did, you can't knock the lack of effort and blood split in trying to keep up with them or should we just turn our backs on the players, coach and club,
time for kear to go
then what the club will collapse, there isn't anyone at present that can replace him'"
Snowie, firstly,if the club was to collapse if Kear went, that doesnt really say much about us.It also smacks of one man being bigger than the club.Im brassed off listening at games to supporters saying Kear saved us from relegation -- how many years will it be until this debt to Kear is considered to have been repaid???
Im not knocking the effort,im knocking the team selection by Kear.It appears he will do anything to accomodate certain players,eg JD,however poor they have been. His overall team selection tonight had us at a disadvantage straight from the kick off -- irrespective of the weather. and this is now 4/5 times he has selected a bench that even Stevie Wonder could see is plain dumb coaching.

| Would this thread have been started if we had won this game, would Kear be a bad coach then?
We lost to a better side on the night in shocking conditions, it could have gone either way.
We lost with a makeshift side to the 3 x Champions, of course we all know best and have an opinion and we could do a better job
Bigger picture springs to mind.

Makeshift?
For what it's worth we were questioning the bench beofre kick off it's not made with the benefit of hindsight. If we had won I would still be saying it makes no sense to have a bench with blaymire and jeffries on it

| I cant believe that we put in a very good showing at Leeds, and still you have to be negative. Be positive, not many teams get within 6 points of them at home. Give them some credit.

| Quote ="cats gone mad"1,gleesen shouldnt be on the pitch in the first place and 2, we got so close while only having two forwards on bench i think we may have sneaked it had we had more freshness in the pack,3 had davy been involved latu would not have had to come back on cos yes he was
Lets start with the common ground - we got very close.
Now JK is only culpable for failing to get close enough if his selection and tactics were incapable of delivering a victory. I'm of the opinion that his selection and tactices were capable of delivering victory. That they did not was due to individual errors with regard to ball retention, many of which could not be reasonably accouted for by the conditions.
I don't have a beef with your view on his team selection. We may have been stronger with the bench you advocate. But what still remains is the side he put out and the tacticis he had them employ were good enough tonight to beat the 3 times champs. We simply bombed on ball retention - not JKs department (unless he had instructed them to drop the ball of course!)

I was pleased to see morrison back and when he left with the binning that is when the game turned,
at 18 all it could of gone any way so how do you call for the coach head
I just can't get around the fact that our fans expect more for the quality of players that we bring to the club, there is one thing they do reserve far greater support than we give them

completely disagree, the game turned (again) at that point when Demetriou dropped the ball for the 4/5th time right before that in his own 20/30

| Disagree with the criticism of the bench, as he was always going to use the subs to interchange with forwards. Forward goes off and JD goes into pack. Murphy moves into centre and Blaymire comes on. Latu goes off, Obst goes in at 9, and BJ comes on to go at 7. Now I haven't got my calculator out, but I bet no forward played more because of the selection than they expected.
Seems a simple strategy that might have kept Leeds guessing a bit, and with that selection we slugged it out, toe to toe, against the champions who played well.
Yep, JD spilled a couple of times at crucial moments, but so did others.
In respect of Gleeson and that pass, it could be equally said that Blanch should have been ready for it. If the pass before then had gone to a man, Gleeson wouldn't have got the ball in that position. Leeds try passes like that all the time, and when they come off, they are geniuses. Gleeson tries it and it doesn't. One of those things.

So what you are saying is, he is a poor coach, (your words) but you are not calling for his head.
That can only mean, in your opinion, you want a coach, who in your opinion is poor, to coach WTRLFC.
Please explain.

| Not really knocking JK in hindsight but Latu should have been replaced after 7 mistakes in a short spell and perhaps a Leaeno/Gledhill for Hendo/Johnson who didn't make much impact. You can't account for unforecast rain with selections!
I still think JD should be spelled. Tonight's performance gave me a lot of heart though.

I nearly had a fight with a Wakey fan in the toilets at half time, what a drunken idiot and I have seen him at BV many a time as equally drunk. I've never seen 20 people leave a room as fast as tonight, it was like Robocop on acid.

Hey thats fine, i just don't understand posters who post negative, without seeing any positve, we all have different views but try to balance the "good and the bad" if we don't then whats the point.
For what its worth i don't disagree with the views on the bench but its all down to opinion, my chice would have been Fergy instead of Blaymire, but i'm not JK.

Gleeson threw a crazy pass, Latu cocked up all night long but only 1 of those two will get stick on here.
The rain changed things, maybe JK expected dry weather and set up the team to suit.

It may be the case that no forward did more than normal, and it is hard to say that the bench strategy cost us the game - that can be laid squarely at the feet of poor decisions and poor execution by players. However, I can't help feeling it is unnecessary, and any hope that it might keep the opposition guessing a bit is rather hollow - we'd worked out on hearing the bench how it would operate and it isn't the first time it has been used. It is probably coincidental that two of those involved, JD and Latu, were two of the players who had absolute stinkers, although it can't have helped.
What I fear it risks doing is creating disorganisation between players as it requires a wider reshuffle rather than straight swaps. You could also argue that those moving from the backs to the forwards aren't going to those positions fresh. Either way, I can't help thinking there are reasons why most coaches follow convention on this one and have a heavier bench.

Cant for the life in me see what anybody sees in Latu hes a clown high time we dropped him and gave young Davey game time if there is one player i hope we get rid of at the end of this season its Latu
As for the Gleeson pass yes crazy pass but if Blanch had taken it and gone 70 yards for a try we would have all said great offload

| You can argue all day long that Kear picked a bench for the weather, but that is clearly not a clever argument. If he had selected a side for the heat then surely 3 forwards is the way to go as the big man get tired quicker. Then if the weather turns as it did then you have the right players for that too.
And just out of curiosity how does what time a post was made matter as to whether an opinion is valid?
I love how some people's only argument on here to something they don't agree with is either you got home early to make that comment or your opinion doesn't count because you didn't go to the game and are not a proper supporter.

Yep I've mentioned it above and on other threads that it looked like a lightweight bench ready for a hot dry humid night. I've mentioned Gleese doing the nasty too but the confidence is something we lacked over the last 2-3 months and Gleese obviously had too much!

| I imagine that the bench was partly dictated by the decision as to what to do with three-quarters at the beginning of the game. I assume that JK wanted JD in there at the start to beef up the defence early on, to take some of the sting out of the Leeds attack. Once Leeds start to tire, he would want more speed in there, and so Murphy takes his place. That necessitates Blaymire being on the bench.
Jeffries was just the interchange hooker, in reality, as he was used as part of that. Again, with Obst at 7 at the start, we began the game with a strong defence in the backs, with JD in the centres.
I think it was a shrewd bench, that started with a beefed-up defence for when Leeds would be fresh, and then introduced pace when Leeds would be tiring, and with that set-up we matched them.
